Murder Mystery Monday takes us back to the television detective who always had one more thing to ask. The first episode of Columbo to air (outside of the two pilots which have notable differences to the ongoing series of TV-movies), hits the ground running with most of the staples of the show including showing us the murder by the guest-star Jack Cassidy, as one-half of a writing team who kills off his partner (Martin Milner). Believing he has gotten away with the perfect murder, our killer isn’t ready for the rumpled detective to take the scene with a series of innocuous questions eventually finding the evidence to get his man.

While the locals deal with the missing Sid (Aaron Douglas) and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) deals with blowback from her vote, Karl (Rossif Sutherland) reluctantly agrees to accompany Deputy Prosecuting Attorney General Lanni Soo (Jamie Chung) to interview serial killer Tommy Cummins (Noah Reid) who has agreed to reveal the locations of his missing victims but only to Karl. Of course the entire scenario is only a ploy for Cummins to escape and attempt to make Lanni his latest victim.

Making use of George Orwell‘s personal journals, narrated by Damian Lewis, alongside news footage and clips from various films (including those adapted from Orwell’s work), director Raoul Peck examines the thoughts and feelings of Orwell on the subject of totalitarianism and authoritarianism during the period on which he wrote his final novel 1984. The documentary takes time to examine the author’s life, including his time as a member of the Indian Imperial Police in Burma which helped form his opinions and social criticism in its non-linear structure of examining the author’s legacy and his foresight into the modern world.
