Money MonsterDirector Jodie Foster‘s Money Monster is an intriguing set-up that gets lost along the way falling down a rabbit hole of conspiracy and increasingly hard-to-swallow events. The film features George Clooney, as the cable host of a financial program known more for its host’s outrageous behavior than honest stock tips, and Julia Roberts as his disapproving producer. When one of his viewers (Jack O’Connell) shows up with a gun and a bomb vest demanding answers to how a guaranteed stock dropped due to an unexplained “glitch,” cast and crew are held hostage and forced to begin investigating matters.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #2

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #2The new threesome of Batgirl, Black Canary, and the Huntress put aside their differences and work together to learn more about the new hacker who has adopted Babs’ old moniker of Oracle. For Batgirl this means a lecture from her father (who in new DCU following DC Rebith apparently doesn’t know the identity of the young redhead under the cowl).

After getting Huntress to put aside her more murderous tendencies the group begins to work fairly well together. Saving a member of the local mafia at least gives the woman a place to start, but it looks like it will be quite some time before they uncover just who the new Oracle is and what they want.

Blindspot - Heave Fiery Knot

Given the mission from Sandstorm, Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and the FBI investigate one of her tattoos that leads the team to a corrupt DEA agent (Ed Moran) selling government-captured guns, including stinger missiles, to drug cartels. Continued to be frozen out by her former friends (who let her be tortured in a CIA black site for months) while seeing the the Sandstorm missions expose corruption and take down dangerous people, Jane continues her internal debate on which side she should be fighting. Weller‘s (Sullivan Stapleton) distancing while dealing with his father’s death and the truth about the woman he hoped Jane Doe was isn’t helping matters.

Hadrian’s Wall #1

Hadrian's Wall #1I love a good murder mystery. Unfortunately, after one issue I’m unsure if Image Comics’ new series fits the bill. Filled with more emotional baggage and drama than actual mystery, Hadrian’s Wall #1 introduces us to retired investigator Simon Moore who is brought out of retirement to investigate the mysterious death of the man who shot him, stole his wife, and ended his career.

Other than seeing the victim die in the vacuum of space, outside the long-range spaceship Hadrian’s Wall, we don’t get much more information about the victim or how someone might even go about killing someone alone in outer pace. What we do get is lots of drama between Simon and his ex (who after years of knowing him somehow doesn’t know telling him not to do something only encourages him to accept the case – that and the large payday).

Blindspot - In Night So Ransomed Rogue

After spending three months in a CIA black site tortured for information she couldn’t possibly know or remember, Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) escapes. Tracked down by a super-secret branch of the NSA, it’s head (Archie Panjabi) enlists the help of Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and his team to bring Jane in and put her back to work to take down the terrorist organization known as Sandstorm which is responsible for more than a dozen domestic terrorist attacks, wiping Jane’s memory, and the murder of Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste). Sending her back in undercover, a wounded Jane runs into another hazily-remembered face (Luke Mitchell) from her past who leads her straight to Shepherd (Michelle Hurd), the allusive head of Sandstorm.
