Loki - Episode 1 review

The new Loki follows the adventures of the version of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), a “variant” from the normal passage of time, created during Avengers: Endgame. However, from the perspective of Loki, the events of his new series take place immediately after the events of The Avengers. This is an important distinction as this version of the character hasn’t had the growth of over the years as the one seen over the remainder of the MCU. Loki is almost immediately captured by agents of the Time Variance Authority tasked with preventing branches in time and resetting variants such as Loki. Despite the TVA’s plans to reset Loki, one agent sees the mischievous and untrustworthy character as a potential ally who they can use to track down a much more dangerous variant who has been killing members of the TVA while working towards some hidden purpose.

“One Day You Will Understand” offers a glimpse into the past of Cleo (Omono Okojie) to help explain her recent actions while Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) clues Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) into what he’s been up to since his death and return from Malivore and the prison world, and Josie (Kaylee Bryant) offers Finch (Courtney Bandeko) a tour of the school. The result of the three stories will add a new student to the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted while two other characters will make their leave searching for ways to destroy Malivore.

Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land #4 comic reviewThe four-issue mini-series comes to a close as Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm‘s time on the hidden island ends but not before Scarlett Santiago fights for the fate of the world by battling the raised vampire Vesperra who the ancestors of the island’s current inhabitants locked away centuries before.

The first of several planned mini-series involving adventures of a young Hellboy, the only limitations to the series are that it forces Hellboy to the sidelines when the action starts, leaving him mostly a bystander. Still, it’s fun to see what the younger version of the character got up to and his reactions to each bizarre situation he and his father manage to stumble into.

Kung Fu - Destiny television review

Kung Fu continues the show’s tradition of a goofy set-up involving Nicky (Olivia Liang) helping someone in trouble while saving its best moments for character-driven scenes outside of the contrived set-up. The person in trouble this week is Chloe (Chelsea Clark) who disappears from Althea‘s (Shannon Dang) bachelorette party when she’s blackmailed by an old friend (Richard Harmon) from her troubled past. Nicky and Henry (Eddie Liu) eventually track down the bling ring crew and stop them from robbing the Soong home as the main storyline ends with the show’s only fight sequence. The bachelorette party, including Althea attempting to appease her mother-to-be, offers it’s share of moments (as does the look-in at the groom’s bachelor party), but it’s what is happening with the Shen family which delivers the episode’s best moments.

Charlie's Angels - Unidentified Flying Angels television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police officers turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. While on the hunt for a missing woman, the Angels investigate the Celestial Research Foundation which promises their members contact with aliens in “Unidentified Flying Angels.” The scam is run by a con man (Ross Martin) with the help of a disgraced astronaut (Dennis Cole) to help give the company some legitimacy. While Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) strikes up a relationship with the astronaut under the guise of flying lessons, Kris (Cheryl Ladd and Bosley (David Doyle) become the group’s newest members, and Sabrina (Kate Jackson) plays the unusual role of a private detective who gets caught twice by the goons (once on purpose and once where she’ll need Kris’ help to escape).
