Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #43

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #43 comic reviewEverything old is new again. The current arc of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps ressurects some of the rivalry the Green Lantern Corps had with the other rainbow lanterns (or even the older issues with the Manhunters) by this time pitting the Corps against the Darkstars. Created by the Controllers, the Darkstars are similar in makeup to the Green Lantern Corps by recruiting soldiers from across the universe. Where the Darkstars differ is in their blunt and brutal form of justice that ends in the same sentence: death.

While the Corps sets out to rescue former Lantern Tomar Tu, what Hal Jordan finds instead of brainwashed hostage is a willing member of the Darkstars (a group far larger in number than the Corps). Instead of a friend in need of rescue, Hal finds a disciple attempting to win the Green Lantern over to his side.

Arrow - Shifting Allegiances television review

While the previous episode of Arrow was focused primarily on Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), “Shifting Allegiances” splits the focus across multiple stories. We get the crime boss attempting to force Mayor Lance (Paul Blackthorne) into doing him a favor, Diggle (David Ramsey) and A.R.G.U.S. attempting follow Quadrant leads back to Diaz, Rene (Rick Gonzalez) returning to the field and working with Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) and Curtis (Echo Kellum) to attack Diaz’s drug operation, and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) attempting to convince friend-turned-enemy Anitoly (David Nykl) to turn on Diaz. Anitoly refuses Oliver’s offer, but in delivering him to Diaz he gives the hero perhaps his chance to save the city in a one-on-one fight between the Arrow and the crime lord (who, unfortunately for Oliver, isn’t above cheating to win a fight).

The Flash - Fury Rogue television review

The return of Earth-X’s Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller), and the introduction of another villainous version of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), are welcome editions to an otherwise melancholy episode as members of Team Flash struggle do deal with their recent losses. For Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Harry (Tom Cavanagh) that means facing the parts of themselves that apparently have been lost, and for Barry (Grant Gustin) that means stuffing his pain over the loss of Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) deep down rather than grieve for his missing friend. At least sad Barry is more bearable than a-hole Barry.

Lucifer - Anything Pierce Can Do I Can Do Better television review

It’s been a common theme of Lucifer that people, angels, demons, immortal cursed beings, and devils don’t always make the best choices. After discovering he is mortal but no longer wants to die, Pierce (Tom Welling) decides to try and win back Chloe (Lauren German) which pushes Lucifer (Tom Ellis) to try and out-do Pierce at every turn. Attempting not to win Chloe’s heart but instead belittle her other suitor at every turn, the result leads to only making Chloe more frustrated and ultimately making a rather rash decision concerning the man who first chooses to open his heart up to her.

Hawaii Five-0 - Ahuwale ka nane hūnā television review

Harry Langford (Chris Vance) returns to the islands working as protection for a British royal (Kate Beahan) and her teenage daughter (Alana Boden). When the daughter sneaks out of her protection detail, Steve (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) help Harry track the girl down before the wrong type of people discover she’s unprotected on the island. Really just an excuse to get Vance back on the show, “I Ka Wa Ma Mua, I Ka Wa Ma Hope” is one of the more enjoyable episodes of the season with a nice balance of tension and humor. I smiled more than once when the show worked in Danny’s parenting skills of a precocious teenage daughter.
