Red Hood and the Outlaws #22

Red Hood and the Outlaws #22 comic reviewThe Outlaws are kept separate for most of Red Hood and the Outlaws #22 as the Red Hood continues to poke the Penguin and sets a second meeting with Faye Gunn, Artemis flashes back on the past and attempts to convince Lex Luthor to save her friend, and Bizarro continues to slowly lose his advanced intelligence and fall back into the dimwitted creature he once was.

Because of the separate storylines, the issue feels a bit more unfocused than usual. Red Hood seems to be wasting time with Penguin and scenes with Faye foreshadow a new story on the horizon, while the stories will import both have to deal with the immeadiate effects of Bizarro’s condition.

Elementary - Pushing Buttons television review

While the theme of Holmes‘ (Jonny Lee Miller) illness is present yet again, the main focus of “Pushing Buttons” involves the murder of Revolutionary War reenactor (and pyramid scheme creator) on the battlefield followed up by the arson of his home. As with many previous episodes of the series, Holmes and Watson (Lucy Liu) will work their way through suspects and various motives before finding the true reason for both crimes. This week’s reveal is almost too convoluted for its own good (hopefully not a sign of things to come). Given his condition, and his doctor’s prescription of rest, it would seem to be an interesting way to gear multiple episodes of the season towards Watson as the primary character, although that doesn’t seem to be what the writes have in mind.

Deception - The Unseen Hand television review

The death of an Internet conspiracy theorist (Danny Mastrogiorgio) leads the FBI to uncover the true existence of a secret society. While the car bombing itself doesn’t hold any mysteries for the Deception team, the Amazing Cameron Black (Jack Cutmore-Scott) discovers that the society is connected to his grandfather’s past, and the team’s unorthodox methods do come in handy when nabbing the killer. Over the course of the investigation, Cameron also encounters a kindred spirit in the dead man’s daughter (Meghann Fahy) who he bonds with over growing up with difficult father figures.

Arrow - The Ties That Bind television review

Attacks on the vigilantes and their loved ones in their own homes brings the Team Arrow members back together for a Hail Mary attempt to take down Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), first on the road and later inside the corrupt Star City police station. While the show spends too much time once again focused on Oliver (Stephen Amell) wanting to protect Felicity, and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) taking risks to help the team, the main storyline offers quite a bit of action as Diaz openly declares war on Oliver Queen and company and makes more brutal inroads with The Quadrant. By the end of the episode, our heroes are battered and bruised and no closer to defeating the villain heading into next week’s season finale.

Arrow - Docket No. 11-19-41-73 television review

The day of Oliver Queen‘s (Stephen Amell) trial has arrived. As we saw in The Flash earlier this season, the trial will take only a single episode. Of course what makes this one different is Oliver is actually guilty of the crimes he’s been accused of and the entire Star City judicial system is under the thumb of Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo). While something of a mess, much like the trial itself, “Docket No. 11-19-41-73” works fairly well offering some surprises including the return of Christopher Chance (Wil Traval) resurrecting a First Season Arrow cast member to become the public face of the Green Arrow.
