Hawaii Five-0 - The Complete Third SeasonMuch of the Third Season of Hawaii Five-0 centers around the return of Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) super-secretive former CIA agent mother (Christine Lahti) from the grave and the series of lies and half-truths between mother and son that keep the truth about both her past and current pursuits a mystery from her son. Other ongoing stories include Michelle Borth becoming a full member of the cast and the continued relationship between Kono (Grace Park) and Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) which is complicated by the return of his brother Michael (Daniel Henney) from prison.

Highlights from the season include the return of Doris to Hawaii, McGarrett and Danny (Scott Caan) getting shanghaied on the high seas, a look back into one of Danny’s cases in New Jersey, Kono being framed for murder, and a series of murders McGarrett is positive were committed by a therapist (Vanessa Marcil).

Batman '66 #1I finally decided to pick up the first few issues of Batman ’66, the print version of the digital comic inspired by the 1960s Batman television show. Batman ’66 #1 features Batman and Robin dealing with the return of the Riddler and his odd puzzles as he sets out to steal three pieces of priceless artwork from Gotham City created by a renown artist whose love for puzzles was well known.

While tackling the Riddler, Batman and Robin end up in the new night club owned by Catwoman who isn’t pleased with the mess they make of her club and her goons. Not involved with the crimes, Catwoman agrees to help the Dynamic Duo stop the Riddler (and take the opportunity to try and steal one of the pieces of art for herself).

Toy Story of Terror

Pixar’s first television special is a Halloween story featuring Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton), Rex (Wallace Shawn), Trixie (Kristen Schaal), and Mr. Potato Head‘s (Don Rickles) adventures in a roadside motel when Bonnie (Emily Hahn) and her mother (Lori Allen) are forced to stop and spend the night due to car troubles. Setting up the tone of the special during the car trip with the scary DVD, Pricklepants’ commentary on horror movies, and Jessie’s panic at getting trapped in a tool box, the episode will play on the creepy and mysterious nature of the hotel as Bonnie’s toys begin going missing while exploring their new surroundings during the night.

Worlds’ Finest #16

Worlds' Finest #16With Power Girl‘s powers on the fritz, Huntress goes it alone trying to bring down a super-powered arsonist targeting models, fashion designers, and the wealthy elite. Over-powered, Helena eventually calls in her best friend who is able to help put out the latest blaze but isn’t strong enough to stop the super-villain from making her escape.

The revolving door on artists for this title continues as R. B. Silva steps in to do the artwork for Worlds’ Finest #16. Although I like Silva’s work, here it has a sharpness and edge to it that doesn’t always fit the characters, particularly the panels of Karen Starr out of costume (which I can’t say for sure is the fault of Silva or the heavy inks of Joe Weems).

Although Power Girl is able to hold it together for the issue’s fight with a New 52 villain who isn’t named, it appears the story of the hero’s wonky powers is going to continue for at least the next few issues. Given Karen’s issues, Huntress carries the bulk of the story well on her own, even if the bad guy gets away. Worth a look.

Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team head to Sweden to investigate a diamond robbery that was pulled off despite 54 identical decoys which is only the latest impossible robbery by a single individual. With the help of social media sites and the masses sharing the oddly-dressed diamond couriers and their immediate surroundings, Skye (Chloe Bennet) helps Coulson identify the thief as former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (Pascale Armand) he once trained.
