Wayback Wednesday takes us back to the world of elemental benders and a 12 year-old boy destined to return balance to the Four Nations. The opening two episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender introduce us to the Southern Water Tribe‘s Katara (Mae Whitman) and her jerky brother Sokka (Jack De Sena) who discover a young Air Bender frozen in an iceberg. Having never seen an Air Bender before, believing them to have been wiped out, they are shocked but even more so when they discover Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen) has been frozen in ice for 100 years and is the missing Avatar destined to bring balance back to the realm dominated by the war mongering Fire Nation.

Moon Knight #29 includes not one but two reveals of the villain’s true identity. After an exhausted Marc Spector kills the Black Spectre, Moon Knight discovers it was only Ryan Trent (one of the villains who formerly used that name) only to get blindsided and discover the identity of the true mastermind of his troubles.

Writer/director Kristoffer Borgli dives into the ups and downs of fame with the unusual prospect of an unremarkable college professor who begins showing up other people’s dreams. Mostly nothing more than an unassuming witness to the dream which otherwise has nothing to do with him, Paul (Nicolas Cage) becomes an immediate celebrity simply for the phenomena he has no control over. However, when his actions in the dreams of others become more explicit and violent the backlash becomes quite real leading to trouble at home, at work, and even attacks made against him.

For a collection of supposed geniuses, these people sure are stupid. Despite having pretty solid evidence to support her claim that Bill (Harris Dickinson) was murdered, Darby (Emma Corrin) finds herself alone in the camp while others are all too willing to accept an unlikely suicide. About to be sent home by Andy (Clive Owen), Darby pushes forward finding an unexpected connection Bill had with another of the guests who will meet a similar end by the end of the episode, just before he can share a crucial piece of information, forcing, hopefully, our “geniuses” to take Darby’s claims a bit more seriously.

Wonder Woman #3

Wonder Woman #3

After one of the best Wonder Woman comics I’ve ever read, the series comes down to Earth for something closer to a middle issue of an ongoing arc. Wonder Woman #3 isn’t bad by any means, it just doesn’t measure up to last month’s terrific issue. The B-story offers a look at the Sovereign and how he uses the the Lasso of Lies to bend another supporter to his will. Let’s just say this takes up more panels of the issue than I’d like.
