Cleopatra in Space - Suspicion

“Suspicion” picks up the thread of Cleopatra (Lilimar) believing Callie (Kari Wahlgren) is Octavian‘s spy and setting up to prove it by partnering with the school’s mean girl during the “No Science Fair” when the entire school takes a break from technology. Despite their initial distrust, the pair turn out to make a good team as Cleo discovers Callie was simply jealous of Cleopatra (even at one point pretending to be her in the episode to meet the biggest star in the Nile Galaxy, who turns out to be a mind-controlled agent of Octavian). The episode is notable for the pair burying the hatchet, the closing musical number, and Akila (Katie Crown) discovering Brian (Jorge Diaz) has feelings for her.

Released six years before Mike Myers would bring Austin Powers to life in a spy parody about a man literally out of time, Richard Grieco stars as a high school student thrust into the spy world in the most unlikely way possible. Flashback Friday looks back at 1991’s If Looks Could Kill.

The movie has a little bit of everything for Bond fans including Linda Hunt in the role of an evil henchwoman playing homage to Lotte Lenya‘s Rosa Klebb in From Russia with Love. We also get Roger Rees as the typical evil businessman seeking world domination, plenty of spy gadgets, beautiful women including Gabrielle Anwar and Geraldine James, fast cars, and a tongue-in-cheek plot where the villain is literally crushed to death by his own greed.

While Magneto fights in vain for his daughter’s resurrection, the evidence begins to pile up that Magneto is responsible for Wanda’s death. He doesn’t take such an accusation well.

In a world where mutant powers can be duplicated, or characters can be manipulated or mind controlled into committing actions they have no memory of, the quick nature of the X-Men to charge Magneto feels rushed leading to a confrontation between the Master of Magnetism and his former enemies.

Checkmate #3 comic reviewAlthough Mark Shaw was able to successfully survive a stand-off with Superman over the capture of Talia al Ghul, the mastermind behind Leviathan does make a mistake with Lois Lane. Her kidnapping ends awkwardly and unexpectedly with the reporter being returned. However, Shaw’s choice of destination for her clues the reporter in on his next target.

The latest issue by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev gets almost too cute for its own good a couple of times, including a major twist that doesn’t seem to track from the story explored earlier. While successfully standing up to the Man of Steel helps solidify Shaw as a major player, the machinations within machinations begin to wear a bit thin here. That said, the reveal of the target being the heavily-guarded Heroes Network would certainly be a prize Leviathan would covet.

What If...? - Episode Two television review

The second episode of What If…? follows much the same formula as the first in swapping out one character for another and observing the changes to the world (or in this case, the galaxy). This time the change involves T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) who is abducted by the Ravagers instead of Peter Quill and grows up to be a far more formidable Star Lord. It’s an odd set-up whose ripples don’t always make sense. Do we really believe T’Challa would be able to convince Thanos not to seek the Infinity Stones? While celebrating Boseman and his beloved character, it also shits pretty hard on the MCU version of Peter Quill who is hard to see as anything more than a total joke by comparison. But it does offer a very different kind of cosmic adventure for the character who apparently is going to get several episodes this season.
