Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

  • Title: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
  • IMDb: link

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the ShadowsThe sequel to 2014’a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returns Megan Fox and the rage-roid Turtles for a new adventure when scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) breaks the Shredder (Brian Tee) out of prison and helps the leader of the Foot Clan assemble the pieces for a dimensional portal to open the way for General Krang (Brad Garrett) and his Technodrome.

Introducing the characters of Casey Jones (Stephen Amell) and mutants Rocksteady (Stephen Farrelly) and Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams), Out of the Shadows plays closer to the themes of the cartoon. While still flawed and ridiculous at times (as in how it gets Fox into a slutty schoolgirl outfit), Out of the Shadows is an improvement thanks to the new characters and better story. Will Arnett returns for comic relief as cameraman turned city hero Vernon Fenwick. Laura Linney also joins the cast as the police chief whose loyalties and motivations swing wildly depending on what is required in each scene to scene.

Mockingbird #7

Mockingbird #7Mockingbird‘s voyage aboard a super-hero fanboy cruise to the Bermuda Triangle continues as she and Hunter become deputized to investigate the murder aboard the ship of a stranger who believed he had important information to help Hawkeye who currently stands trial for killing a defenseless Bruce Banner. One of the strengths of the series so far is the comic’s tongue-in-cheek nature. That said, Mockingbird #7 is the first issue of the series where things begin to get out of hand as Chelsea Cain is so quick with quips gags, in-panel jokes (such as what each character’s favorite cocktail is) that the actually story gets stalled for too much of this comic.

The Big Bang Theory - The Complete Ninth SeasonThe Ninth Season of The Big Bang Theory will finally see Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) tie the knot (with still issue to work through) and some big changes for Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy‘s (Mayim Bialik) relationship which will go through a break-up and an unexpected reunion and escalation of the pair’s relationship. Howard (Simon Helberg) will deal with loss and impending fatherhood, and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) will juggle two women vying for his affections.

Not the strongest season of the show’s near decade run, other memorable moments include the return of Wil Wheaton, the boys’ road trip, and psychotherapy for both Leonard and Penny.

Uncanny X-Men #12

Uncanny X-Men #12Magneto‘s plan for his team of X-Men takes a turn when he proposes a partnership with the Hellfire Club. Psylocke balking at the idea of joining the Hellfire Club also leads to a flashback of Magneto recruiting Betsy as the most unlikely member of his team of X-Men.

From Magneto’s perspective a partnership with the Hellfire Club makes perfect sense as his larger plans for mutants call for all the allies the master of magnetism can muster. Like Psylocke, I’ve never been that big a fan of the elitist club of kinksters and mutant aristocrats but reintroducing them here as potential allies makes sense (while also questioning just how reliable or useful these new allies truly are). On the flip side teaming up with the Hellfire certainly seems to push Magneto’s team out of the gray and firmly in the villain column.
