Daredevil: Dark Nights #7

Daredevil: Dark Nights #7Daredevil and Misty Knight‘s adventures continue as their helicopter gets shot down miles from Cuba on their way to track down the kingpin whose men kidnapped Matt Murdock’s latest client. Eventually the pair make it to land only to face new threats including the rocket-launcher-totting Carmen Averez and the kingpin’s soldiers.

The quips and sexual tension between the two characters continue throughout the issue (as does Misty’s disappointment about not having her way with the hero under the moonlight). There’s plenty of action as well and an important reveal Misty’s insight on their target which sets up next month’s final issue of both the arc and the anthology.

There are some fun moments here, but the issue is really used to set-up the various conflicts in next month’s finale. Although it hasn’t been as good as Mark Waid‘s run on the regular title, I’ve enjoyed seeing other writers and artists play with the character over the past few months in these isolated tales. For fans.

Glee - Previously Unaired Christmas

Set during the show’s previous season, this “lost” Christmas episode (obviously filmed this year) centers around various Christmas themes in both New York and Lima. As Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer), and a visiting Santana (Naya Rivera) all struggle with their holiday jobs as Christmas elves, the New Directions focus on winning McKinley High’s room decoration contest and auditioning for role of Mary in the live nativity that Marley (Melissa Benoist), Unique (Alex Newell), Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), and Kitty (Becca Tobin) all have their eye on.

Morning Glories #35

Morning Glories #35Offering another issue centered around a single student, the latest issue of Morning Glories turns its attention to Fortunato Medeiros who faces danger from the Academy both in the past and present. Luckily for Fortunato, as a child he was lucky enough to have a guardian angel in the time-traveling Casey Blevins. In the present, however, poor Fortunato has to face the wrath of Georgiana Daramount all on his own.

Although the comic gives us Casey kicking some serious ass as Dainelle Clarkson, and has some nice moments between the older Casey and younger Fortunato, Morning Glories #35 is by far one of the darkest issues of the comic’s run featuring an incensed Daramount whipping and even blinding the young man in an attempt to reassert her power and status in the school.

Daramount certainly takes a dark turn here, reverting closer to how she was originally presented, but her the level of her viciousness with Fortunato (someone the Academy obviously prizes) is more than a little perplexing. For fans.

Almost Human – The Bends

Almost Human - The Bends

Like several other pretenders in recent years Almost Human steals various ideas from sci-fi writer Isaac Asimov and his mix of mystery, cop story, robots, and futuristic setting with mixed results. It’s certainly nowhere near as well-thought-out or engaging as Asimov’s work, but the new FOX series involving a hard-boiled detective forced to work with a robot partner against his will (who he starts to take a shine to – sound familiar?) makes good use of its stars (even if the psuedo-futuristic episodic storylines haven’t been all that interesting so far).

As Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) decide Skye (Chloe Bennet) missed out on the proper rights of hazing and pranks by not going through S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s academy, Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) talk with a woman blamed for a series of accidents in a small town which appear to have been triggered by telekentic powers. However, Hanna (Laura Seay) refuses to accept responsibility for the odd occurrences believing she is being haunted which is actually far closer to the truth as one of her co-workers (Robert Baker), caught in the explosion that trapped him between dimensions, has been stalking her both before and after the accident he is responsible for.
