Glee returns from hiatus with the students at McKinley High, including a few return graduates, preparing for the school’s production of Grease. To help get Finn (Cory Monteith) out of his current funk stuck working in Burt’s (Mike O’Malley) tire shop Artie (Kevin McHale) invites his friend to co-direct the musical with him. Artie also enlists the help of McKinley alums Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) to help with the musical by offering their services as choreographer and vocal coach for the play.

Taking pity on Sweets (John Francis Daley) who has been living out of his office since his sudden break-up with Daisy (Carla Gallo), Booth (David Boreanaz) invites the shrink to stay with Bones (Emily Deschanel) and Booth until he finds a new apartment. Although Sweets is welcome into their home, his arrival does cause a few uncomfortable moments (including Bones’ dancing). Meanwhile, the Jeffersonian team begins looking into the remains of a 20 year-old woman whose skin was eviscerated and body was torn apart while she was still alive.

madagascar-3-blu-rayIn their third film the four animals from Madagascar – Alex (Ben Stiller) the lion, Marty (Chris Rock) the zebra, Melman (David Schwimmer) the giraffe, and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) the hippopotamus – join a European circus and finally make it home to New York City. After growing tired of waiting for the penguins to return to Africa, the NY foursome travel to Monaco to retrieve their friends and start the journey home only to have to hide out in a rundown traveling circus to escape a crazed Animal Control officer (Frances McDormand) who wants Alex’s head stuffed and mounted on her wall.

Fans of both the first and second film should enjoy themselves here as the third entry into the franchise gives us more crazy plans and inventions from the penguins, more zany travel adventures for our fearsome foursome, new wacky supporting characters, and even a love interest (Jessica Chastain) for Alex this time around.

The Flash #13

the-flash-new-52-13-coverThe Flash #13 begins the comic’s new arc “Gorilla Warfare.” With the newly reformed Rogues about to claim their first victory over the Flash all hell breaks loose as Central City is invaded by Grodd and his army of super-gorillas from Gorilla City. The scarlet speedster’s enemies have no choice but to team-up with the Flash or see their entire city laid to rubble (with them under the pile).

Part One of “Gorilla Warfare” is a hell of a lot of fun with tons of action as Central City’s hero and a collection of its most notorious enemies fight an army of attacking super-apes. The dialogue does a good job showcasing the incredulity of everyone involved with the situation they find themselves in, and once again the comic’s art by writer/artist Francis Manapul is terrific.

I don’t know if I’m ready to see the Flash battle Grodd for the next three months, but this issue certainly helps sell me on the idea of the multi-issue arc involving Grodd, the Rogues, and my favorite speedster. Worth a look.
