Loosely inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop, Will Arnett stars as a newly-separated fortysomething who discovers a way to talk through his issues by doing stand-up comedy. At times the film is a little cute for its own good such as how Alex (Arnett) falls into comedy while high, the manner in which his secret is discovered, and the unavoidable kid performances and parties all movies like this seem contracted to contain.

The film’s soundtrack (including “Start of Something New,” “What I’ve Been Looking For,” “Stick to the Status Quo,” “When There Was Me and You,” and “Bop to the Top“) became the best-selling album of the year, and the TV-movie launched the careers of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale.

Throwback Tuesday takes us back 40 years to the days when movie stars attempted to behead each other for a prize. When I think over the Highlander franchise I’ll admit I have more of an appreciation for the TV series that came after the movies which allowed time and space to delve into the long lives of the immortals who swordfight to the death before beheading each other to elaborate pyrotechnic performances and blasts of music from Queen.

The twist of the story comes in the revelation of why the ghosts invaded the town, not to steal it for themselves but an attempt to hide from an even larger threat pursuing them across the seas.
