Naomi #3 comic reviewStill searching for answers, and sure the adults in her town know more than they are telling, Naomi pushes Dee for information. What the lumbering, but terrified, mechanic offers, however, shocks the adopted girl from Oregon. He and the love of his life were elite Thanagarian warriors who ran away from their duties to Earth, but were sadly were separated before she could join him.

Given the interruption by Naomi’s incredibly irate adoptive mother, Dee’s story ends before any of it begins to tie directly to Naomi. However, given that her adoptive father reveals that he too is from space, it seems like the wild story of Naomi’s parentage may be far stranger than she could have imagined.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3 comic reviewThere are some moments in Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3, where despite the alternate version of events and characters, writer Jordie Bellaire manages to capture some of the feel and magic of the show so very well. Two such moments occur based on discoveries Buffy makes in this issue. The first involves the creature released by Drusilla from Anya‘s magic shop, which despite its fearsome visage is actually a friend to the Slayer and her mission. The second is Buffy’s shock at discovering that Giles plays the guitar… in public.

Although Camazotz goes back into the bottle, I’ll be curious to see just what role it may have in the future. The Scoobies continue to show a bit more resilency out of the box than in the original series and Willow and Xander show up to help Buffy, and Cordelia Chase steps in to help fight the big monster (although after the adrenaline wears off she’s less than happy with the trouble Buffy “brought” to town).

The Wild Storm #20

The Wild Storm #20 comic reviewWhere many of the previous issues of The Wild Storm have been focused on introducing a large assortment of characters and lining up various storylines, The Wild Storm #20 has one clear objective: to show off the badassery of Apollo and Midnighter. It’s extremely successful.

Most of the comic is geared to Skywatch hitting a small town with their ground troops and flying saucers only to be met with far more resistance than they expected by two unwelcome guests. The result is a relatively easy win for the pair and a black eye for Henry Bendix.

The Flash - Cause and XS television review

In “Cause and XS” The Flash revisits the idea of timeloops and altering the past. For one hour Barry (Grant Gustin) enters the Speed Force in order to speed up Cisco‘s (Carlos Valdes) meta-human cure. However, this leaves the rest of the team vulnerable to Cicada‘s (Chris Klein) attack. Despite doing her best, Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) watches someone close to her stabbed to death with the super-villain’s dagger no matter what changes she attempts to make to events by traveling back an hour to set things right. Only Cisco’s minor vibes clue him in that something odd is going on as the episode offers a few different awkward first dates with Kamilla (Victoria Park) in the sequences set to provide the lighter moments in contrast to the large amount of death Nora is incapable of stopping.

Batman: The Animated Series - Dreams in Darkness TV review

Our Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to Gotham City. “Dreams in Darkness” is one of those episodes of Batman: The Animated Series I often forget about, which is surprising since it has such an unusual set-up. The episode opens with a ranting Batman (Kevin Conroy) incarcerated inside Arkham Asylum. Through an extended flashback we see the series of events which led Batman to be exposed to the Scarecrow‘s (Henry Polic II) fear toxin and the reason for his trip to Arkham to confront the villain the doctors mistakenly believe is still locked up in his cell. The set-up is clever as the doctors have every reason to question Batman’s ramblings, and the Dark Knight Detective’s hallucinatory state leads him to make the impulsive choice to head to Arkham without sharing his deductions with the GCPD.
