In an episode that doesn’t include a single scene taking place within the restaurant (other than a montage flashback of ranting), the family heads across the bay to a small island for an award ceremony after the restaurant wins for “best dive.” Uncharacteristically cheery, at least initially, Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) crashes back to Earth after realizing he doesn’t get to keep the award, which is just a prop for the publicity photos, and is asked to shell out $200 for his own. Inspired by a sighting of Vincent (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), the kids decide to steal the trophy for Bob.

Along with offering an adventure involving retrieving the Arcane Compass from the boobytrapped hoard of the legendary pirate mercenary Nydas Okiro, the encounter in the Gentleman’s lair also foreshadows secrets of Molly‘s (Taliesin Jaffe) forgotten past and a ritual that led to both his tattoos and his missing memories.

There’s nothing quite as disappointing as your typical film that never goes for it, never rises to the occasion, and chooses to play it safe within the expected framework of its genre. There are studios who are created for the sole purpose of outputting these kinds of films. Borderline does not have this problem. Writer/director Jimmy Warden‘s batshit crazy dark comedy about a celebrity (Samara Weaving) held hostage by an obsessed fan is the kind of balls-to-the-wall lunacy that garnered and kept my attention for its entire 94-minute running-time. This film rules.

The 25th Anniversary 4K SteelBook marks the first time director Kinji Fukasaku‘s 2000 action film has been released on 4K. The collection includes both the original and director’s cut of the film, new and previously-released special features, and SteelBook art by Oliver Barrett. While not the first film to offer a dystopian future in which combatants fight for the death, Battle Royale is highly regarded (despite, or possibly because of, the controversy surrounding its release that delayed it being shown in American cinemas for more than a decade).
