Usagi Yojimbo: Lone Goat and Kid #1

Recollecting the classic Usagi Yojimbo stories from the character’s first series, Miyamoto Usagi is hired by Lady Koriko in Usagi Yojimbo: Lone Goat and Kid #1 to return her recently deceased husband’s swords home from the village in which he died. Things get more complicated when Usagi discovers the samurai was murdered and his mistress, who loved him far more than his wife, has no interest in parting with the swords.

The reprinted comic is a tragic tale for the heartbroken young woman who meets the same fate as her love when she’s killed by her greedy brother who can’t ignore the reward Usagi is offering for the swords. However, he’ll face the greed of his “friends” who want a little of that reward for themselves, eventually beating him to death for it in the woods.

Seven Secrets #13

Caspar, Eva, and the other manage to survive the destruction of the Seekers’ headquarters, although it does lead to Caspar making a startling discovery about himself and an eventual confrontation between mother and son over her actions and what Eva is keeping from him. And, as we’ve seen before, we get another reference to Caspar’s impending death.

All doesn’t go as well for other separated members of the Order as the inside man is revealed and another secret falls into the hands of Amon. I’ll admit to not being surprised by the reveal of the traitor, but how Amon convinces others to join him (through the use of the future-seeing secrets) is certainly of interest. Not only does it garner more support to the traitor’s side it raises the question of whether or not Caspar is indeed on the right side (although Amon’s hardon to kill him doesn’t exactly paint the Seeker as heroic).

Red Sonja: Black, White, Red #6

While these anthologies can be a bit hit-and-miss, I actually enjoyed all three of the black and white (and of course red) Red Sonja tales presented here. Red Sonja becomes increasingly agitated in my favorite of the three stories, “Morgona the Crimson,” when she learns someone is profiting off her likeness and claiming payment for her heroic deeds.

In “The Daring Rescue of Crown Prince Maximilian (Beloved of All The Peoples),” Red Sonja is hired by emissaries from the Kingdom of Levkoy to rescue their captured prince (who turns out to not be exactly what our hero was expecting). And following a fortune told, Red Sonja journeys to battle a giant who (along with her arrogance) was said be her demise in the appropriately titled “The Giant.”

The Book of Boba Fett – The Tribes of Tatooine

  • Title: The Book of Boba Fett – The Tribes of Tatooine
  • wiki: link

“Chapter 2” of The Book of Boba Fett follows the same formula of the first episode offering us the current troubles of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) attempting to become a crime lord on Tatooine and his time with the Tusken Raiders before reappearing on The Mandalorian. Rather than jump back and forth between the two stories, this time we open with new trouble for Fett as he deals with the captured assassin and faces a challenge to his throne in twin cousins of Jabba who have laid claim to Jabba’s territory. A public standoff results in no resolution or bloodshed, but does suggest where the assassins came from and what other dirty tricks the Hutts may come up with.

Hawkeye – Echoes

  • Title: Hawkeye – Echoes
  • wiki: link

The third episode of Hawkeye finally finds Clint (Jeremy Renner) and Kate (Hailee Steinfeld) working together. The pair survive their encounter with the Tracksuit Mafia and Echo (Alaqua Cox) by fighting their way out of the abandoned warehouse and through the streets of New York (leaving quite a bit of destruction in their wake thanks to the variety of Hawkeye’s trick arrows). The arrows, and Kate’s reaction to them, aren’t the only humorous slant to the episode as Clint’s hearing aid gets damaged during the escape leading to some miscommunication between the pair.
