Samurai Jack - Episode XX: Jack and the Monks television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the adventures of the time-displaced samurai and his quest to make his way home. Jack‘s (Phil LaMarr) faith and perseverance is tested in “Episode XX.” After the minions of Aku destroy a time portal before the samurai can use it to travel home, a disheartened Jack encounters three monks who are on a quest to climb a mountain where, it is said, truth can be found at the mountain’s summit (while admitting no traveler has ever made it that far). While neither welcoming or discouraging the samurai, Jack joins them on their quest only to face obstacle after obstacle which further break his spirit.

Stargirl - Shiv (Part Two) television review

With Courtney (Brec Bassinger) sidelined given her injuries at the hands of Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy), it falls on the rest of the team to pick up the slack in “Shiv Part Two.” Pat (Luke Wilson) takes steps to explain Courtney’s injuries while her friends look to uncover the truth about who Cindy’s parents really are. The later ends up in an undercover mission for the unusual pairing of Pat and Beth (Anjelika Washington) as father and daughter (when forced to create a cover story on the spot). It also leaves Courtney alone when Cindy comes calling. The last two episodes have turned me around on the mean girl with far more going on than most realize, although her father’s disapproval of her recent actions makes you wonder how much of Cindy we’ll see in the near future.

Highlander - The Lady and the Tiger television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to a man born in the Highlands of Scotland more than 400 years ago and a murderous game between sword-wielding immortals where there can be only one. “The Lady and the Tiger” introduces us to one of Highlander‘s best recurring characters, and the only one to get her own spin-off. A trip to the circus reunites MacLeod (Adrian Paul) with Amanda (Elizabeth Gracen), a thief and former lover who has left Duncan holding the bag several times over the centuries (an example of which we see in the flashbacks). The episode never explains the coincidence of the pair’s reunion as Amanda seems as surprised to see Duncan in the big top as he is to see her on the high wire. The episode also introduces Amanda’s former partner Zachary Blaine (Jason Isaacs) who escapes a prison transport in the opening scene with plans on killing Amanda, at least until she offers to help him take MacLeod’s head instead.

Charlie's Angels - Dancing in the Dark television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police officers turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. Despite it’s title, “Dancing in the Dark” does not involve the Angels working a Bruce Springsteen concert. Instead, the episode involves the Angels going after a blackmailing ring (run by John Van Dreelen and Dennis Cole) that targets lonely women in the public eye. Sabrina (Kate Jackson) goes in undercover as the mark, a socially awkward heiress to a large fortune, while Jill (Farrah Fawcett) becomes a dance instructor at the location where the blackmailers find their targets and Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) takes the place of the criminals’ private investigator (Logan Ramsey) who specializes in background checks and taking juicy photos for blackmail.

Doom Patrol - Jane Patrol / Hair Patrol television review

“Jane Patrol” and “Hair Patrol” offer two stories that take place simultaneously following the tumultuous events of Karen being temporarily in control of Jane (Diane Guerrero) as Jane retreats far into herself. “Jane Patrol” focuses on the Negative Spirit putting Cliff (Brendan Fraser) inside Jane’s mind where we finally see the Underground fully realized. While he doesn’t belong, he wants to help. While being Cliff, he screws it up (at least for awhile). As an added bonus, the mental version of Cliff is still human (at least until he needs to call on his robot nature to help save his friend). At the same time their teammates are busy, “Hair Patrol” focuses on events in the manor where the bizarre Beard Hunter (Tommy Snider) arrives in search of the missing Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton).
