Killjoys - What to Expect When You're Expecting...An Alien Parasite television review

“What to Expect When You’re Expecting…An Alien Parasite” is a fun episode that finally features all the core characters together under one roof. While trying to figure out how to help Johnny (Aaron Ashmore), more of Dutch‘s (Hannah John-Kamen) time in the Green is revealed (although still not how she managed to escape). While we still don’t understand why the Green crystallized following her return to the real world, we now know why Aneela stayed behind and what the Lady wanted from Dutch. As for Johnny, his attempt to kill himself not only revealed a way to de-Hullenize him but also how to deliver Delle Seyah Kendry‘s (Mayko Nguyen) baby, which it turns out isn’t a tentacle monster ready to enslave the human race. I don’t know if I’m relieved or disappointed.

Firefly - The Train Job / War Stories TV review

This week’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us into the black for more of Joss Whedon‘s Firefly. Although separated by several episodes, “The Train Job” and “War Stories” are connected by the team’s involvement with the sadistic criminal Adelai Niska (Michael Fairman) who hires Serenity and her crew to perform a job for him in “The Train Job” and proceeds to take his pound of flesh in “War Stories” for their failure to see the job through. Both episodes are character-driven and delve into the people who keep Serenity flying. In the first we discover that, despite being smugglers and outlaws, there is a limit to how far Mal (Nathan Fillion) and his crew will go. And in the second we see the complex dynamic in the Mal/Zoe (Gina Torres)/Wash (Alan Tudyk) relationship along with how far the rest of those aboard the ship will go when one of them is put in danger by a sadistic madman like Niska.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #25

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #25 comic reviewTaking a break from recent events, and stretching out new abilities, Leonardo travels to the Astral Plane where he encounters an unusual guide and an unexpected adversary. Tied to recent events, but very much a standalone story, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #25 is an interesting issue that takes place almost entirely in the mental/spiritual realm.

“Dan” who appears both as a statue and a living guide for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, is an odd character who gives the first-half of the issue a somewhat goofy feel. The arrival of Kitsune, however, turns things serious quickly. The art of Nelson Daniel is able to capture both tones quite well.

Danger Man - The Sisters television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. There’s an interesting conundrum at the heart of “The Sisters,” but before Drake (Patrick McGoohan) can get to it he journeys halfway around the world to work with a frenemy (Sydney Tafler) to smuggle a young woman (Mai Zetterling) to the West. A talented scientist (Barbara Murray) has defected, but unsure whether or not the woman is the real thing the British send Drake to find the woman’s sister who alone can make a positive identification. Despite their initial embrace, the discrepancies in the two woman’s accounts makes it a certainty that one of them isn’t who they appear to be, but which one is lying?

Star Wars Rebels – The Complete Fourth Season

Star Wars Rebels - The Complete Fourth Season Blu-ray reviewThe final season of Star Wars Rebels begins with the Rebels helping the Mandalorians rescue Sabine‘s (Tiya Sircar) father and ends with a final battle between the Rebellion and the Empire for Lothal. In-between, the season offers several highlights including the loss of a member of the Ghost, a large victory for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), the return of Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), and episodes exploring how Lothal’s creatures are tied to Rebel’s fate against the Empire. I know there are those that prefer The Clone Wars (and I’m happy to see it return in limited form), but I’d much prefer more episodes featuring these characters.
