Domino #2

Domino #2 comic reviewThe second issue of Gail Simone’s Domino picks up with our heroine in mid-air having be flung from her apartment to her death. Luckily, a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man swings by just in time to save Domino from leaving her mark all over a San Francisco sidewalk. A step-up from the first issue, Domino #2 explains a bit more of who our villains are and why they have shown up to wreck Domino’s life.

The idea of a character who takes the brunt of all of Domino’s good luck and needing to balance the scales certainly makes for a villain with a very personal motive. Topaz’s ability to screw with mutant powers (either turn them off, short-circuit them, or throw them into overdrive) also presents an unique challenge for Domino.

The Flash - Harry and the Harrisons television review

Reaching out for help in questionable places is the common theme throughout “Harry and the Harrisons.” First, Harry (Tom Cavanagh) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) attempt to enlist two separate versions of the Council of Wells in order to get some help with Harry’s diminishing intellect. Neither proves useful. Meanwhile, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) enlists the help of Amunet (Katee Sackhoff) whose powers might just be the key to stopping DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) from launching his satellites (and who may be able to help her reconnect with Caitlin’s chillier alter-ego). In order to get Amunet’s help, Team Flash must track down more of the villain’s missing shards which have been taken by a meta-human (Mark Sweatman) the group has crossed paths with before.

Elementary - Once You've Ruled Out God TV review

Murder by lightning gun turns Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan (Lucy Liu) on to a local laboratory missing some platinum, a dead Nazi bomb maker, and a legitimate threat of a dirty bomb being detonated in New York City. While the threat is very much real, the truth behind the series of events is never quite what it seems. The episode’s B-story involves more of Joan’s sister (Samantha Quan) and the death of her estranged and mentally-unstable biological father. While mostly filler, the B-story does feature a nice moment between the detectives which ties in Sherlock’s current illness with that of the father Joan barely knew.

“Let me get this straight, you want me to broadcast your consciousness into a magical dark valley dimension using the 31st Century technology which allowed me to access your mind when Reign punched you into a coma, technology specifically designed to enter human consciousness, not alternate realms, and you want me to do this all before the solar eclipse achieves totality which will happen in less than two hours.”

Supergirl - Trinity television review

With the trio of world killers united, Kara (Melissa Benoist) calls on the help of Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath) to use Legion technology and send the Girl of Steel, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and Lena (Katie McGrath) into the dark dimension where Sam‘s (Odette Annable) consciousness is trapped along with the human consciousness of the other killers which are slowly dying. Unable to be sure that she can trust Lena, Supergirl enlists the help of Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) to confirm the Luthor stockpile of Kryptonite (which Lena was using to keep Reign sedated) has been extinguished as Lena claims… which sounds like just the kind of really bad idea that could be the first domino to fall in Luthor villain turn.

The Flash - Therefore She Is television review

Relationships are the main theme of “Therefore She Is” which not only brings back Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) from Earth-19 to help stop DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) who has begun stealing various classified components for his Englightenment but also offers flashbacks to DeVoe and Marlize‘s (Kim Engelbrecht) relationship over the years. The DeVoe/Marlize scenes help fill in some basic information about the pair’s relationship and how Marlize was eventually won over to her husband’s radical ideas. As has been foreshadowed several times over the course of the season, the super-villain’s recent actions finally create a split between the two (although apparently not enough of one for Marlize to stop the Enlightenment… at least not yet).
