In the Fade Blu-ray reviewPunctuated by a terrific performance by Diane Kruger, In the Fade is an unflinching and powerful film delving into the themes of love, loss, hatred, bigotry, and revenge. Kruger stars as Katja, a former drug addict who has put her past behind her and has a stable life in Hamburg with her husband and son… at least until a bombing at the shop kills Katja’s family. While the police look for motives tied to Katja or her husband’s murky past, it soon becomes clear that her Kurdish husband was targeted by Neo-Nazis for no other reason than the color of his skin.

While Lucifer (Tom Ellis) tries to understand his partner’s perplexing decision to marry Pierce (Tom Welling) working a murder at a dog show with Dan (Kevin Alejandro), the ladies throw Chloe (Lauren German) a bachelorette party (although multiple guests have their own reasons for showing up). “All Hands on Decker” is pretty boilerplate Lucifer. The devil makes outrageous choices (such as taking on Chloe’s role and expecting Dan to be more like him), but eventually is lead to the truth he was seeking all along.

Elementary - An Infinite Capacity for Taking Pains television review

After nearly a full year off the air, Elementary finally returns for the show’s Sixth Season. Along with introducing a new case involving a missing person that leads to two separate murders, the season premiere picks up on the thread introduced at the end of last season involving Sherlock‘s (Jonny Lee Miller) deteriorating mental state. With the detective coming clean to Joan (Lucy Liu), we learn that although is condition likely isn’t permanent it is effecting his ability to do his job which puts further strain on the detective in realizing that without his work there’s a very real chance of losing his sobriety (which would further complicate him getting better). It’s a vicious circle that is met with quiet frustration by the detective and concern from his partner.

Usagi Yojimbo: The Hidden #2 comic reviewThe second issue of Usagi Yojimbo: The Hidden delves more into Inspector Ishida and Miyamoto Usagi delving into the murder of Christians the night before. Once again we see strong foreshadowing that Ishida’s boss is either culpable in the crimes or at the very least far more interested in finding someone to blame and closing the case rather than uncovering the true motives for the deaths.

Other than Usagi and Ishida stopping a group from killing the gate guards who let in the murder victims and those that pursued them (someone obviously doesn’t want them to report on what they saw), there’s little action in the second issue of the seven-issue mini-series which instead focuses on the pair discussing the crime and searching for clues.
