Dark Matter - Hot Chocolate television review

Negotiations between the representatives of independent worlds turn out to be just the distraction Ryo (Alex Mallari Jr.) needs to put his plan into action. First, using his new programmer, he hacks into the Android‘s (Zoie Palmer) programming giving his team control of the ship and a way on-board using the Transfer Transit pods. The crew’s former teammate is a little less murderous than we’ve seen him recently, choosing not to harm his former friends. However, his inability to capture Five (Jodelle Ferland) proves to be his undoing as the girl hides aboard the ship and works to take back control of the Raza.

Batman #27

Batman #26 comic review“The War of Riddles and Jokes” continues, although without the flashback narration from Batman. This time the central character is not Batman, nor the Joker, nor the Riddler, but an inventor and mechanic of sorts who gets trapped in the games between the other three parties. The ridiculously-named Charles Brown is used as a pawn by the Dark Knight Detective and the Riddler both to draw out the Joker. The plan blows up in everyone’s faces, and costs the low-rent thug what he prizes above all else.

Batman #27 works as a pretty compelling origin story for one of Batman’s D-List villains. Charlie Brown’s love of his son, understanding of wind-dynamics, and adoption of the seemingly innocuous toy used to take his son away from him certainly gives unexpected weight to the origin of someone choosing to call himself Kite Man.

Detective Comics #960

Detective Comics #960 comic reviewDetective Comics #960 continues the arc’s dual storylines. Batman reconnects with Zatanna and attempts to convince her to let him use a powerful and dangerous artifact known as the Gnosis Sphere which can answer any question posed to it. Once again we’re give flashbacks to Bruce and Zatanna’s past and the first time Zatanna offered to show her young friend the device. Now she does all she can to dissuade him from using it.

Given the recent events involving the apparent loss of Tim Drake and Batman discovering that his memories have been altered where the League of Shadows (and possibly other things) are concerned, along with his quest to find the answers about the mysterious god-like force altering the DCU, it makes sense that Batman would seek out confirmation about his decision-making and to find out answers to his questions. However, as Zatanna says, that’s a dangerous path to go down.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #12

Red Hood and the Outlaws #12 comic reviewAfter arcs centering on Jason Todd and Artemis, the current run of Red Hood and the Outlaws shifts focus to their companion Bizarro whose clone body has begun to break down. Understanding his condition, but unwilling to allow his friends to fight a rampaging Solomon Grundy alone, Bizarro chooses to join the fray.

While the comic has built up a connection between Red Hood and Bizarro over the first few issues, Artemis’ reaction to Bizarro’s condition is a little more surprising. Perhaps it’s caused in part by recent events and losses, or perhaps she has come to respect the creature as a warrior given his help to them in Qurac. Either way, the three strangers have become something of a team, and maybe even more, over the course of the first dozen issues.

Dark Matter - Wish I Could Believe You TV review

After a chemical attack Six (Roger Cross) awakes aboard the Raza among his friends but can’t help shake the feeling something is wrong and begins to suspect that nothing is real. Eventually Six manages to break out of the simulation, or does he? “Wish I Could Believe You” works as a classic sci-fi story where nothing can be trusted, even offering a twist or two once Six thinks he’s made it out of the simulation.
