“Suddenly Alec” is a fun episode of The Irrational that allows the show to play on the musical theatre backgrounds of both Jesse L. Martin and Karen David when Alec and Rose go undercover working for a community theatre company looking for a killer. We’d seen the show make use of David’s musical chops in a previous episode, but “Suddenly Alec” pushes the professor under the spotlight stepping in for the murder victim to provide the voice of Aubrey II in a production of Little Shop of Horrors. While the professor gets a bit too good to fast for someone with no experience (why not give him a bit of background like the show has done for Rose) it is quite fun to see Alec play the murderous plant while also using the play to solve a murder and a separate case for a client which Rose was hired for.

Reacher – Smoke on the Water

Things finally do go to shit for Reacher‘s (Alan Ritchson) undercover mission, although not as quickly as you might expect. The run-in with Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee) doesn’t immediately blow his cover. Nor does Richard (Johnny Berchtold) blow Reacher’s cover and discovering his kidnapping was staged and Reacher is working with the DEA. However, Quinn’s men investigating those who have been looking into his business lead to attacks on Powell (Owen Roth) and Neagley (Maria Sten) whose connection to Reacher will blow his cover. Neagley fares better than Powell.

Trouble in Paradise

Stone Sunday takes us north to the sleepy town of Paradise, Massachusetts and another case for Police Chief Jesse Stone. There’s a throughline of love and obsession in the second novel of the series that involves both Jesse dealing with his ex-wife relocating to the area and a group of thieves planning a heist run by career criminal Jimmy Macklin who is willing to betray just about everyone other than the woman he loves (and sometimes even her). Jimmy’s crazy plan isn’t help by his need to flirt with the police, putting him on Jesse’s radar sooner than necessary.

While playing on recent events, the majority of “Dominique” focuses on an extended flashback which introduces the impressive Sergeant First Class Dominique Kohl (Mariah Robinson) who worked under Reacher before his Special Investigators phase. The pair’s first case involved a soldier (Johnathan Sousa) leaking military secrets under threat from a military intelligence officer targeting his family. That officer’s name was Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee).
