Star Wars Rebels - Hera's Heroes

“Hera’s Heroes” returns the crew of the Ghost to Hera‘s (Vanessa Marshall) home planet of Ryloth where the local Rebels have seen their fortunes worsen since a new Imperial commander has arrived. The episode is notable for both introducing Scout Troopers to the series, and playing on the long-running gag of Ezra (Taylor Gray) still collecting Imperial helmets, and for offering the first interaction between one of our heroes and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) when Hera and Ezra are captured while attempting to retrieve a sacred artifact from her home.

Green Lanterns #8

Green Lanterns #8Losing a renegade Guardian of the Universe on Halloween night he has in his possession a power ring anyone is capable enough to command isn’t the best way to start the holiday for Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz. And if that wasn’t enough, Earth’s two rookie Green Lanterns aren’t the only ones on the lookout for Guardian Rami and the Phantom Ring.

Green Lanterns #8 is a fun Halloween-themed issue featuring Simon’s family, trick-or-treaters, and a pair of Dominators on Earth in hopes to get their hands on the Phantom Ring. Dominators aren’t my favorite alien threat, but they actually turn out to be just the kind of creepy-looking pair of villains for a proper Halloween comic.

The Flash - Paradox

After altering time to save his parents and then attempting to reset things back to normal, Barry (Grant Gustin) finds home isn’t the place her remembered. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Iris (Candice Patton) are estranged, Barry still hasn’t made a romantic move on Iris, Cisco‘s (CarlosValdes) brother is dead, and Barry has to deal with another Central City employee (Tom Felton) in his lab. Even a heart-to-heart with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) doesn’t calm the Flash’s nerves or give him any insight on how to set things right. And his attempt to gather Joe, Iris, Cisco, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale), and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) for a dinner party to work through their mutual problems doesn’t go exactly as planned.

Supergirl - The Adventures of Supergirl

With Supergirl moving from CBS and joining the other DC Comics television properties on The CW there were questions about how much the show would change. Picking up just seconds after the First Season finale, Supergirl kicks off its Second Season with a strong opener. The entire core cast returns with some important additions and minor tweaks. First, the DEO has moved from their lonely cave to a downtown skyscraper – and has a new employee in Winn (Jeremy Jordan) who is now in far better position to help Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Second, the city is now also home to Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath), the stepsister of the world’s wealthiest federal prisoner. And then, of course, there’s Superman.

Jessica Jones #1

Jessica Jones #1Given the popularity of the Netflix series it’s no big surprise that Marvel Comics has chosen to re-ream writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos whose Alias comic series provided the foundation for Netflix’s Jessica Jones. I’ve lost track of the character in recent years, so I was a bit surprised by the comic’s opening in which Jessica is released from maximum security prison without much detail of what she was incarcerated for or what earned her an early release.

Ready to get back to business and reopen Alias Investigations, Jessica’s attempts to find a client are interrupted by the repeated arrivals of Luke Cage‘s friends each offering pointed questions to Jessica about where her child is. Undeterred from questioning by both Misty Knight and Spider-Woman, Jessica keeps this secret to herself.
