red-robin-13-coverFirst Red Robin was searching for Bruce Wayne, then he was taking on Ra’s al Ghul, and now? Well, that’s the question as this arc begins.

Now back in Gotham, Drake takes down a gang leader (which may turn out to be a mistake) as he tries to answer questions about his role and mission now that he’s back. There’s also a nice scene wrapping up the engagement news of Lucius Fox’s daughter Tam.

Strong issue all around, and I like how writer Fabian Nicieza is playing on Red Robin’s over-confidence, leaving open the possibility of a big fall in the future. The comic remains fun, well-written, and one of DC’s best. Definitely worth a look.

Justice League: Generation Lost #2

justice-league-generation-lost-2-coverI love this comic. Other than one complaint (which I’ll get to in a second) I’m totally on board for Keith Giffen’s tale.

Maxwell Lord has made the world forget his existence. Not only that, he’s disgraced the few heroes who remember him in the eyes of the rest of the DCU. Ice is seen as unstable, Fire was let go from Checkmate, Captain Atom is now a renegade, and Booster Gold…well, he’s still Booster Gold. Booster’s reputation was so tarnished Max didn’t even need to worry about him. Though the change Max makes to Ted Kord‘s death is perhaps the deepest cut of all.

Max Lord is free to start anew and the only ones who might stand in his way are seen as lunatics at best and unstable loose canons at worse. This has all the makings of a comic I will gladly pick up every two weeks!

Now for my one complaint – Guy Gardner. I had assumed that Guy would be introduced sometime during the series, as he is here, but that he would be part of the original team who would remember Max. Sadly that’s not the case.

So you’re telling me not only do I get Batman in this cartoon but Captain Marvel, Black Adam, Dr. Sivana, the underground cavern with the statues of the Seven Deadly Sins, Fawcett City, and the Rock of Eternity, all in one episode? What’s not to love! The only thing missing here are cameos from Mr. Tawky Tawny and the rest of the Marvel Family (especially Hoppy).

Historically not all of Roman Polanski’s choices have been good ones (and I’m not just talking about Pirates). Say what you want about the director’s personal life, the man knows how to tell a story and how to build and hold dramatic tension without relying on unnecessarily cheap plot twists.

Adapted from the Robert Harris novel The Ghost, The Ghost Writer begins with the death of a ghost writer working on former British Prime Minister Adam Lang’s (Pierce Brosnan) autobiography.

Into the fray steps the new Ghost (Ewan McGregor), never referred to by name, who soon has second thoughts about taking the job. Our new writer’s job is made more complicated by his subject being charged publicly with war crimes, a sneaking suspicion of other dark secrets hidden in the shadows, a media frenzy, and a growing paranoia of his over his safety.

Atomic Robo and The Revenge of the Vampire Dimension

Well that’s what happens to poor boring paleontologist Bernard Fischer when he shows up at Tesladyne (a thinktank dedicated to exploring the fringes of scientific inquiry)for his interview with Atomic Robo. When his competition is killed by the invading vampires Bernard is immediately hired. That’s the good news. Now all he has to do is stay alive from the invading horde of vampires who want to kill every living soul in the building. Yeah…that’s the bad news.

The team of writer Brian Clevinger and artist Scott Wegener return to their characters in the first issue of this new Atomic Robo mini-series, and, if this first issue is any indication, it should be a fun ride.
