MacGyver (2016) – The Complete Series

All five seasons of the MacGyver reboot are collected here featuring Lucas Till as Angus MacGyver working for the covert Phoenix Foundation solving problems all over the world with the help of his friends Jack (George Eads), Riley (Tristin Mays), Bowser (Justin Hires), and in later seasons Desi (Levy Tran) and Russ Taylor (Henry Ian Cusick).

More high-tech than the original MacGyver, often with some kind of hacking need by Riley, the reboot saw more team action in the field but still worked in MacGyver’s various on-the-fly inventions to get out of tough jams. The show was hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak, which was worked into an episode after filming began again,  leading to some shortened and truncated final seasons.

MacGyver - Golden Lancehead + Venom + Pole Vault + Blood + Baggage TV review

Snakes, why did it have to be snakes? First Season guest-star Aly Michalka returns to reprise her role as Mac‘s (Lucas Till) nearly as smart college friend Frankie Mallory. Frankie has been working with Mac on an off-the-books project to develop cancer treatment from one of the world’s most dangerous snake venoms. However, when others see the ability to weaponize Frankie’s research she becomes a target. In an episode that really focuses on the situation, and the kidnapped guest-star, there isn’t much for the regulars to do other than react, or in the case of Russ (Henry Ian Cusick) to overreact, based on his own guilt. Mac’s lies to create another wedge in his relationship with Desi (Levy Tran), although his secret turning out to be an attempt to eradicate cancer (albeit through illegal means) does mitigate her anger.

iZombie - Thug Death TV review

The final season of iZombie opens with a viral video of a human attacked by zombies that puts the city’s delicate peace in jeopardy. No remains offers no brain for Liv (Rose McIver) to munch on, and Ravi (Rahul Kohli) offers little help while on douchebag brains and having his attention split by both Peyton‘s (Aly Michalka) interview with humans pushing for a pre-empitive attack on zombies and a scientist’s (Quinta Brunson) discovery of a potential cure which would make hundreds of children targets for their brains.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power - The Sword television review

Originally introduced as a spin-off to a television series created for the sole purpose of selling Masters of the Universe toys, She-Ra gets a reboot in the new series from DreamWorks Animation and Netflix. With more of an anime feel, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power introduces us to the orphaned Adora (Aimee Carrero) as the most naive solider in history whose eyes are opened to the Horde‘s evils when she ventures out beyond the Fright Zone and meets her first princess. Although Hordak is present in cameo roles, the main villains for Adora are her former friend Catra (AJ Michalka) who remains with the Horde and the evil sorceress Shadow Weaver (Lorraine Toussaint) who hopes to bring Adora back where she belongs. After discovering the Sword of Protection and seeing the Horde’s rampant destruction, Adora is forced to leave behind her best friend and set out on a new path as the protector of Etheria.
