iZombie - Are You Ready for Some Zombies? TV review

It’s a brave new world for iZombie as the Fourth Season opens with Seattle cut off from the rest of the world over fear that the zombies may spread outside the walled-off city limits. Life is relatively normal for Liv (Rose McIver) who continues her role as assistant medical examiner helping Clive (Malcolm Goodwin). Things are a bit less normal for Ravi (Rahul Kohli) whose zombie vaccine is 90% effective except for his zombie-benders every few weeks. Major (Robert Buckley) is given a new role at Fillmore-Graves which allows him to put some old skills to use (although it takes him longer than expected to discover just why his boss wants him to help teen zombies on the streets). As for the city at large, some are taking the new status quo in stride while others have begun singling out zombies and forming gangs attacking the creatures who they believe have ruined their lives.

“Watching my zombie roommate talk to a ghost? That’s just what I call a Tuesday.”

iZombie - Return of the Dead Guy television review

With no murder to solve this week the characters of iZombie have to find other ways to pass the time. For Liv (Rose McIver) that means hallucinating her old boyfriend after munching down on the brains of killer for Peyton (Aly Michalka). This puts more than a little crimp in her new relationship with Justin (Tongayi Chirisa). Major (Robert Buckley) has no such problems as his days and nights are full of lust and debauchery with his new friend Shawna (Sarah Jurgens). Ravi‘s (Rahul Kohli) time with the zombie truthers is a little less sexy now that they’ve captured Don E (Bryce Hodgson) and plan to expose the truth about zombies on a livestream. Oh, and Blaine (David Anders) gets an unexpected visit from his old boss.

iZombie - Dirt Nap Time / Eat a Knievel TV review

While Liv (Rose McIver) helps Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) investigate the murders of a preschool teacher and a reality-TV adrenaline junkie (Robert Ri’chard) “Dirt Nap Time” and “Eat a Knievel” bring a return to form for Blaine (David Anders). Depressed over his recent break-up with Peyton (Aly Michalka), Blaine’s life gets no easier with his father (Robert Knepper) and Don E (Bryce Hodgson) pushing in on his business and attempting to murder him. Returned to zombie form with a righteous fury, revenge on his dad, and big plans for zombie-kind, it appears the old Blaine is back. While I’m not surprised with the turn, I’d have liked to see the reformed Blaine stick around for a bit longer.

iZombie - Some Like It Hot Mess television review

“Some Like It Hot Mess” proves to be a gamechanger for several characters. With Liv (Rose McIver) on the brain of a scatterbrained millennial she’s of little help to Ravi (Rahul Kohli) in the morgue, Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) on the case, or the Major (Robert Buckley) who slowly begins showing the symptoms of memory loss after his return to human form. The situation also forces Blaine (David Anders) to come clean about a secret he’s been hiding for months, not only does the cure work but the memory loss side-effects are temporary. He remembers everything about his old life, a revelation that Peyton (Aly Michalka) is less than pleased to learn.

iZombie - Eat, Pray, Liv television review

There’s actually quite a bit going on in “Eat, Pray, Liv” which is held together by the Liv (Rose McIver) becoming more zen after ingesting the brain of a murdered self-help guru, eventually helping Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) solve the man’s murder. The awkwardness between Ravi (Rahul Kohli) and Peyton (Aly Michalka) isn’t improved by Ravi admitting his true feelings or strong-arming Blaine (David Anders) to try the experimental memory cure now that Major (Robert Buckley) is on borrowed time.
