I’ve got to admit I love Bruce Timm returning to the world of Batman: The Animated Series, however the recasting of Harley Quinn leaves something to be desired. Batman and Harley Quinn. The movie will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 29th.

With the extended arc surrounding the invasion of Gotham first by an army of Batmen an then by the League of Shadows, Detective Comics has let the actions of Spoiler fall through the cracks. Detective Comics #957 picks up this thread to let us in on what Stephanie Brown has been up to since the apparent death of Tim Drake.
Obviously still in mourning, the vigilante has come up with a plan to focus attention away from Batman and the Bat-Family by solving crimes and giving the GCPD all the credit. It’s an odd plan, but fits in with her role of “spoiler” I guess. It also gives her an outlet to use her pain for good rather than misguidedly taking on or harming any member of the Bat-Family directly. Of course there is glaring error in her plan: mostly Batman doesn’t take credit for what he does, meaning her actions might not amount to what she hopes. Also the lure of Batman, and the fear he causes the lesser-criminals of Gotham City, isn’t to be ignored.

The death of a descendant of Lamont Cranston, a well-respected orderly at Arkham Asylum, leads Batman down a rabbit hole. Encountering an odd shadowy creature at the crime scene, Batman goes back to the beginning investigating Cranston, his network of informants, and even talking with the man’s closest ally Margo Lane.
There are several questions posed in this first issue. How is Lamont Crantson still alive and spry enough to go toe-to-toe with the Batman? Why has he returned after all these years simply to kill his own descendant? Who is the Shadow’s new master? I’m always up for a Bat-story where our hero’s detective skills are highlighted, and I’m curious to see where Batman’s journey takes him from here.

It’s been almost a years since DC Rebirth #1 relaunched the DCU, retconned a big chunk of the New 52 as the work of a super-villain, and teased a connection behind the entire chain of events to one of the best comic series ever written. Since then DC’s been pretty quiet on the subject for the most part, at least until now. It seems it’s time for the Dark Knight Detective and the Scarlet Speedster to search for the truth.
Batman #21 picks up the breadcrumb of the Watchmen button left in the Batcave. When the unexplained artifact gets too close to the Psycho-Pirate‘s mask things take an unexpected turn with the sudden appearance of the Reverse-Flash. You might expect the Flash‘s arch-nemesis to stick around to cause more trouble, but he too is drawn into the mystery of the button. You know what they say about curiosity, right?

“League of Shadows” continues as Batman confronts Ra’s al Ghul for the truth about the secret offshoot of the League of Assassins which he always believed to be a myth. Detective Comics #954 sees the Dark Knight Detective bested by the Demon’s Head whose cryptic answers on further infuriate Batman. Offered no other choice but to trust Ra’s, Batman soon regrets that decision as he’s almost immediately betrayed and turned over to Lady Shiva and her cult.
The latest issue in the series continues to build up Lady Shiva as a major threat to both Batman and Gotham, a threat so powerful even Ra’s al Ghul is willing to cut a deal with his former subordinate rather than do battle with her. Ra’s al Ghul has gone to great lengths to keep the existence of the second League secret, but even now that they are beyond his reach he still choices Shiva over the detective.
