Darkwing Duck

Darkwing Duck #15

darkwing-duck-15-coverWhat can I say? Darkwing Duck can even make politics fun! The battle for Mayor of St. Canard heats up as both Darkwing Duck and Launchpad McQuack stave off negative campaigning (who they blame each other for, although neither is responsible). As the comic nears its final issue this one is jampacked with cameos including Launchpad’s new campaign manager, Spike, and Darkwing and Launchpad putting aside their issues to battle The League of Barely Remembered Supervillains!

The League is made up entirely of lesser known criminals from the Darkwing Duck cartoon including Lilliput, Professor Moliarty, the Bugmaster, Jambalaya Jake (and his pet gator Gumbo), and Tuskernini. Victory of the also-rans is shortlived as Suff-Rage pulls out all the stops by mysmerizing the audience to attack all three candidates.

Once again writer Ian Brill and artist James Silvani outdo themselves in creating an insanely fun read (with extra insanity). If you aren’t reading Darkwing Duck you’re missing out. Worth a look.

Darkwing Duck #14

Darkwing Duck #14Just as Darkwing Duck‘s mayoral campaign begins in earnest he’s attacked from two sides. The first is by his opponent in the race, current City Councilwoman A. Dention, who wonders live on air if the blame for all the trouble in St. Canard shouldn’t fall at the feet of the city’s self-appointed savior. As he’s out saving the city from another disaster Darkwing can’t fight back against Dention, but he can fight against his other threat – a giant armored battle suit at the hands of one pissed off kitten who calls himself Cat-Tankerous. (Which, seriously, is all kinds of awesome!)

Darkwing Duck #13

darkwing-duck-13-coverAs Darkwing Duck continues to search for answers to Morgana‘s disappearance by visiting every psychic and palm reader within the city limits a new villain takes St. Canard by storm. A former relief pitcher known for never throwing the same thing twice has gone, well, screwball.

Under the guise of of One-Shot, the town’s newest super-villain, armed with a mysterious magic overcoat from which he can pull objects from other dimensions, throws everything he’s got (literally) at the city’s populace (but only once). Distracted by Morgana’s disappearance, Darkwing’s first attempt to stop the new evil-doer doesn’t go quite as planned.

Never fear! Darkwing manages to pull himself together and save the city (and Gosalyn, who has gotten herself captured by the crazy former pitcher). Our hero also decides on a questionable new course of action that may prove to be his downfall. Worth a look.

Darkwing Duck #11

darkwing-duck-11-coverAlthough it might not be as good as last month’s issue (which was the best issue of the series so far – and one of the best comics I’ve read in 2011), this one’s still brings the fun as Darkwing Duck, Steelbeak, and Femme Appeal make their way through the secret fortress of F.O.W.L.

The issue spends quite a bit of its time wrapping up of the cool ideas and story elements introduced in issue #10, including the giant robotic Walrus and Gosalyn and Honker‘s confrontation with Ammonia Pine, before giving us an inevitable betrayal that leaves our hero at the mercy of Duckthulu (who has converted most of St. Canard into his mindless zombies – including Launchpad).

We’ll have to wait another month for the conclusion of the Duckthulu arc. I’ve enjoyed this storyline, but I’m ready for a new story arc. Even if this issue can’t quite live up to the insane level of awesome of last month it’s still definitely worth a look.

Darkwing Duck #10

If you thought magic dinosaurs were going to be the coolest thing you read in comics this week you were wrong. The latest Darkwing Duck shoves so much awesome into one issue I’m surprised it doesn’t explode.

After evading an army of Eggmen by using every secret device built into the flying spy-car (including one which disguises them as the llama from The Emperor’s New Groove), Darkwing Duck and Steelbeak break into the secret headquarters of F.O.W.L. (only to be followed shortly Gossalyn and Honker).

In the belly of the beast, so to speak, our heroes run into all kinds of obstacles including, but not limited to, the following: guillotine blades, alligator briefcases (briefcases with actual alligators inside), secret bookcases, Ammonia Pine, and a giant robotic walrus.
