“Featherhide” follows the same formula of the previous episodes with the introduction of a new dragon and the introduction of one more of the ICARIS research station kids into Dragon Club. This time it’s hacker Alex (Aimee Garcia) whose curiosity over Tom‘s (Jeremy Shada) recent actions overrules her dislike of the outside world and leads her to making some new friends including her equally skittish dragon Feathers. With all the characters now officially Dragon Riders, the set-up is complete. Now, what adventures do the show have for the new generation of Dragon Riders?

“Dragon Club” plays out largely like the second episode as another kid from the ICARIS research station is introduced to the hidden world of dragons, and saves and befriends a dragon of their own. This time it’s the reluctant D’Angelo (Marcus Scribner) who is dragged into Dragon Club (complete with an overt reference to Fight Club… for a kids show?) in order to help an injured Gembreaker dragon he will call his own by the end of the episode. The adults remain clueless as to what is going on, although Alex (Aimee Garcia) does make a discovery suggesting she will be the next introduced to Dragon Club.

And now there are two. When Tom Kullersen (Jeremy Shada) sneaks away to spend time with his dragon, who earns the name Thunder in this episode, Jun (Ashley Liao) follows him discovering the hidden world below only to get trapped in a crystal chamber. To escape, she’ll need to make a connection with a two-headed dragon who will eventually accept her as its dragon rider. Mostly centered around Jun and her dragon, and Tom and Thunder fighting off some Gembreakers, other characters only make token appearances her including Alex (Aimee Garcia) who finds a way go get Tom outside the perimeter without setting off the alarms.

Well this is an unexpected series? Set more than a thousand years after the various movies and TV-shows that make up the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, comes Dragons: The Nine Realms. Set in present day, our main character is precocious teen Tom Kullersen (Jeremy Shada) who relocates with his scientist mother (Julia Stiles) to the ICARIS research station investigating the Kullersen Fissure which holds a secret no one has guessed: a pathway to a world of dragons. Obviously a modern interpretation of a very familiar character to the franchise, Tom will be the one to discover a dragon and unearth a whole new world. Or, to be more precise, a much older one.
