Arrow - Fighting Fire With Fire television review

Since they were introduced it was obvious that either Billy Malone or Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) was going to eventually be revealed as Prometheus. Billy’s death made it all too easy to guess the identity of the season’s big bad. As expected, Adrian is revealed to be Prometheus in “Fighting Fire With Fire” although Ollie (Stephen Amell) won’t know this for at least another week. The main focus of the latest episode is Oliver and company (heh) going into damage-control mode after Chase leaks the cover-up in Green Arrow’s involvement in Billy’s murder. Facing impeachment, Oliver decides drastic action is called for, and rather than blackmail those deciding his fate or throw one of his subordinates to the wolves, Mayor Queen decides to turn the city’s hero into the bad guy.

Arrow - Spectre of the Gun

Arrow gets a bit preachy with “Spectre of the Gun.” After a shooting in city hall that leaves multiple victims injured or dead, the show’s response isn’t for Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) to suit up and track down the killer but instead for Mayor to take a hard look at his position on guns and examine what the Mayor can do that Green Arrow cannot. For most of the episode the arguments in favor and against stricter gun laws are handled by Curtis (Echo Kellum) and Rene (Rick Gonzalez) who go twelve rounds about guns in the hands of private citizens and whether or not they help or hurt the public good. Flashbacks this week aren’t from Ollie’s time in Russia but from Rene’s past where we learn more about events which led him to pick up a hockey mask and crystallized his view on guns. The usually opinionated Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), however, is cast in the role of Switzerland trying to keep the peace on a topic she believes can never be worked out.

Getting the information they need from Anatoly (David Nykl) means opening a door to his past and letting the Bratva back into his life which will likely have lasting consequences for everyone connected to Star City’s Mayor.

Green Arrow #16

Green Arrow #16 comic reviewGreen Arrow #16 begins with a happy reunion but ends in tragedy. The return of Emiko Queen certainly lightens Oliver’s recent hardships which include being hunted by the Seattle Police, having Oliver Queen thought dead, and living in the forest as a modern day outlaw.

Working with Chief Westberg, Ollie, Emi, Black Canary, and Diggle take down the dangerous rogue cops known as the Vice Squad. It’s a big win for Green Arrow, both in cleaning up the streets and repairing his tarnished reputation, but before the night is even over celebration will turn to tragedy with the return of the Dark Archer Malcolm Merlyn.
