Art of Love

If you can make it through the first-half of Art of Love, which is asking more of the audience than any movie has a right to do, there is some fun to be had in the film’s final 40 minutes of this story about an Interpol agent (Esra Bilgiç) attempting to prove her millionaire ex-boyfriend (Birkan Sokullu) is a world-renown thief. The film struggles heavily before getting to our thief’s last big score which will shift the focus of the film from the awkward cat-and-mouse game the two are playing and finally push both characters, each of whom has lied about their present motives, together into admitting their feelings.

I’m a sucker for heist films, but even for me Lift is a mixed bag with questionable casting choices and some notable plot issues. Playing against type, a toned-down Kevin Hart stars as super-thief Cyrus. After successfully staging a two-part theft in both Venice and London, and under pressure from Interpol, Cyrus and his team are recruited by Agent Abby Gladwell (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) to steal from a terrorist moving a half-billion dollars in gold to buy a device capable of creating natural disasters all over the world from a secret hacker collective.

Berlin - La energía del amor

A prequel to Money Heist (a show I will admit I haven’t watched) the opening episode of Berlin is entertaining but also a bit shaky at times. We start out with a small heist theoretically included to introduce the members of the crew and allow each to show off their special skills. Unfortunately, the entire heist relies on Berlin (Pedro Alonso) carrying off a con and the others doing little more than stand around (which one of them almost screws up). We do get some narration in a montage introducing the crew to us, although we don’t get to see these skills put into action.

The third and fourth episodes of Reacher‘s Second Season lead the remaining reunited 110th Special Investigators Unit tracing back their clues to New Age where Swan (Shannon Kook) worked prior to his disappearance. The thread of Reacher (Alan Ritchson) beating up a cop gets picked up as he finds himself held by Detective Russo (Domenick Lombardozzi) for a few hours before eventually agreeing to work with Reacher as long as he and his comrades don’t do anything crazy… like, for example, break into New Age and steal the documents and computer servers they can get their hands on.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget

Man, chickens are stupid. Or, depending on the scene in question, they are highly intelligent and skilled. For the plot of this film, both premises will need to be equally true. Feeling very much a straight-to-video sequel, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget features the return of Ginger (Thandiwe Newton) and Rocky (Zachary Levi) and their friends who have carved out a safe community for their daughter Molly (Bella Ramsey). Telling her nothing of the horrors of the outside world, any of which could have prevented all the events which follow, a curious and rebellious Molly sets out to discover a world where chickens seem happy in buckets (did I mention chickens are stupid?).
