Throwback Thursday takes us back to a man born in the Highlands of Scotland more than 400 years ago and a murderous game between sword-wielding immortals where there can be only one. Aside from being a strong standalone episode, “Band of Brothers” feeds the larger Highlander storylines in several ways. First, the episode introduces the former general turned priest in Darius (Werner Stocker). A mentor and friend to Duncan (Adrian Paul), Darius’ introduction not only fills in a gap of Duncan’s life from warrior to a more complex individual but also introduces the idea of a Dark Quickening which the series will develop further along the line by offering the story of the inverse when the once powerful general was forever changed by taking the life of a holy man and turning away from a life of war.

Today’s Throwback Thursday post takes us back to a man born in the Highlands of Scotland more than 400 years ago and a murderous game between sword-wielding immortals where there can be only one. “Revenge is Sweet” opens with MacLeod (Adrian Paul) battling immortal Walter Reinhardt (Christoph M. Ohrt) whom he is able to best but not kill. Jumping three years in future, the man’s former fiance comes looking for both MacLeod and revenge while being blissfully unaware of either immortals or the fact that her fiance is still very much alive. As with “Free Fall,” the episode makes good use of a singer turned actress by casting Vanity as a femme fatale who poses a slightly different kind of threat to MacLeod in that while she may want him dead she doesn’t literally want his head.

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to a man born in the Highlands of Scotland more than 400 years ago and a murderous game between sword-wielding immortals where there can be only one. A spin-off of the Highlander movie series, Highlander: The Series focuses on the adventures of Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul), the younger clansman of Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert). “The Gathering” sets up the basic formula for the show’s First Season introducing Duncan, his girlfriend Tessa (Alexandra Vandernoot), and a young thief (Stan Kirsch) whose role will greatly expand over time. The show’s pilot episode also features Richard Moll as the evil immortal of the week, who targets not only Duncan but Tessa as well, and features Lambert in a guest-role passing the torch to Paul.
