Apprised of the situation by Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), the real Lucifer (Tom Ellis) returns from Hell to find Michael and attempt to undo the damage his twin brother has caused in Lucifer’s absence from Los Angeles. Lucifer and Chloe‘s (Lauren German) reunion is bittersweet given Michael’s bombshell about the purpose of Chloe’s creation. Unable to immediately find his brother, Lucifer and Chloe work together on a new case involving the murder of a television showrunner Lucifer helped out years ago who decided to use Lucifer to create a TV series about a crime-solving Devil called Lieutenant ¡Diablo!. Lucifer - Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer! television review

Faux-Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) tenure turns out to be shorter than expected as several characters realize that the Devil’s twin brother Michael is attempting to pass himself off as Lucifer Morningstar. Michael admits the truth to Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) in hopes of enlisting her help to tear apart Lucifer’s life on Earth and force the Devil to return (in order to prove something to himself and his family). Before discovering the truth on her own, Chloe (Lauren German) and Michael will work on a case together solving a murder of a would-be astronaut at a Mars training facility. While he may look like Lucifer, Michael can’t quite get his brother’s mirth right leading to an odd series of interrogation scenes with Lucifer being the more responsible partner and Chloe lashing out at the suspects.

Lucifer - Really Sad Devil Guy television review

When last we saw Lucifer (Tom Ellis) he said farewell to Chloe (Lauren German) and chose to return to Hell. While only two months have passed on Earth, Lucifer’s time in Hell has been far longer. Working with Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Chloe still hasn’t dealt with her loss while Lucifer has picked-up his old ways of judgement and torture (even if his heart really isn’t in it). When a murder victim from Los Angeles (Jeremiah Birkett) shows up for torture, Lucifer attempts to relive his salad days and solve the murder realizing the Chloe is working the case on Earth. Attempting to offer punishment only highlights Lucifer’s own Hell, but he is able to get a message to Chloe, albeit one mangled by a demon, to help her on the case.

Lucifer - Save Lucifer TV review

The penultimate episode of Lucifer‘s Fourth Season features the death of a local celebrity realtor and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) struggling with becoming more and more demonic. While the murder of the week boils down to family drama and squabbles, Lucifer’s transformation is much harder for Chloe (Lauren German) to deal with. In a watershed moment for her character, Chloe accepts Lucifer (devil wings and all) and in doing so allows Lucifer to accept and forgive himself for his past mistakes. Tying back to Chloe’s season-long struggle with the bombshell she learned at the end of the previous season, this would allow the season to end on a happy note for both Devil and detective, but fate it seems has other plans. The episode is also notable for the birth of Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and Linda’s (Rachael Harris) child whose mere existence will lead to trouble for everyone involved the the series finale.
