Hawaii Five-0 - A 'ohe mea 'imi a ka maka television revieHawaii Five-0 - A 'ohe mea 'imi a ka maka television review

This year’s Hawaii Five-0 Halloween episode offers a pair of unusual mysteries. The first involves a murder Jerry (Jorge Garcia) believes was committed as a child. Reunited with a group of his childhood friends, Eric (Andrew Lawrence), and Noelani (Kimee Balmilero) the group looks for a body buried decades ago by an axe-wielding killer only Jerry believes exists. While the premise itself isn’t bad, it does feel a bit late in the game to introduce a murder that has been haunted Jerry for his entire life this late in the show’s run.

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #42

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #42 comic reviewWriter Solly Fisch and artist Dario Brizuela monkey around in the latest issue of Scooby-Doo! Team-Up. I want to know if Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #42 exists solely on a wager about how many DC monkey and ape characters the two could squeeze into a single issue. I’m not saying that’s what happened, or even if it did that it would be a bad thing, it’s just one of the most niche set-ups for this comic I can remember and that’s as likely an explanation I can come with as anything else.

Mystery, Inc.‘s latest case involves the sudden appearance of ape villains under the command of Gorilla Grodd. The super-villains include the Ultra-Humanite, the vampire ape Pryemaul, Monsieur Mallah, Gorilla Boss, Mod Gorilla Boss, and Titano.

A Nero Wolfe Mystery - Eeny, Meeny, Murder, Moe TV review

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to the mid 20th Century New York and the private detective offices located at 454 W. 35th Street. Murder under Nero Wolfe (Maury Chaykin)’s roof drags the detective into a high profile divorce case which otherwise Wolfe would never have undertaken. When a legal secretary (Christine Brubaker) is strangled in Wolfe’s study, with Wolfe’s own tie, while Archie (Timothy Hutton) attempts futilely to get his boss to leave the plant room to see the woman, Wolfe has no choice but to begin an investigation. Wolfe is then forced to explain to victim’s boss (George Plimpton) that she witnessed a member of the firm meeting with the opposing client Mrs. Rita Ramsey Sorrell (Kari Matchett) in public, a fact which led to her demise under Wolfe’s roof (something he cannot ignore).

Hawaii Five-0 - Ke Kanaka I Ha'ule Mai Ka Lewa Mai television review

When an undercover CIA agent (David Preston) is abducted on-board an incoming flight to Honolulu (in an elaborate attack that looks good on camera but makes almost no sense as opposed to grabbing the man on the ground), Danny (Scott Caan) leads Five-0 into the jungle where they encounter Chinese agents. The attempted kidnapping ties back to Greer (Rochelle Aytes) and the death of Miller (Jack Coleman). While completely out of character for McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) to give up the chance to hunt in the jungle, putting Danny in his place as a mentor to the younger members of the team freshens up the jungle chase the show has used several times over the years. Five-0 is successful in capturing both Greer and recovering the wounded agent, although Greer believes her knowledge of McGarret and their missions together can still cause problems for Five-0’s commander.

Charlie's Angels - Night of the Strangler television review

Today’s Throwback Thursday post takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police detectives turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. When a model with a striking resemblance to Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) is killed the Angels are hired by the victim’s parents to look into the case. For Kelly and Jill (Farrah Fawcett) that means going undercover as models with Sabrina (Kate Jackson stepping in as a photo stylist and working closer with a scummy photographer (William Beckley) with a history of violence against women and underground pornographic films. Although Kelly’s resemblance to the dead model is highlighted at the beginning of the episode, it really has very little to do with the outcome of the plot (making one wonder if it was originally supposed to be a much larger part of the story).
