Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #45

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #45 comic reviewWhile entertaining, Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #45 doesn’t offer much for Mystery, Inc. to do. Opening with the gang attending a show featuring Mister Miracle showcasing the escape artist’s talents, the showman’s wife (along with Daphne and Velma) are captured by monsters from Apokolips forcing the rest of the gang to head after them (van and all).

It’s obvious both writer Sholly Fisch and artist Dario Brizuela are fans of Scott and Barda, and the story does allow for some fun moments featuring the characters, even if figuring a way to get Scooby and the others into their story feels a bit forced.

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to mid 20th Century New York and the private detective offices located at 454 W. 35th Street. During a reception for showing off his orchids, a potential client is killed in Nero Wolfe‘s (Maury Chaykin) study. A thief tied to an unsolved murder which has baffled the police, Cynthia Brown (Kathryn Zenna) pleads with Archie (Timothy Hutton) to see Wolfe. However, by the time the detective reaches his study the con woman has been strangled by a mystery man in a hat whose path she crossed during the reception. Suspects held for Inspector Kramer (Bill Smitrovich) to question include the dead woman’s brother (Nicholas Campbell), several older couples, and a psychiatrist (Richard Waugh), but the murderer’s identity proves to be none of the men on the guest list leaving the police vexed but Wolfe with a clever idea as how to smoke out the killer (whose identity only he has surmised from Archie’s recounting of his conversation with Cynthia Brown).

Silk Stalkings - Dirty Laundry television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the unsolved crimes of passion in the wealthy playground of Palm Beach, Florida. The apparent natural death of a womanizing congressman (Tom Howard) brings in Chris (Rob Estes) and Rita (Mitzi Kapture) who discover there was more going on with the man’s family and death than meets the eye. First, there’s the son’s girlfriend (Kelly Miracco) who was also sleeping with the father (including on the night of his death). Second, no member of the family is all that sad to see the congressman dead. And third, there’s the drugs found in the congressman’s system which makes his “accident” look a whole lot more like murder. Miracco is well-cast as the gold digger who proves nothing more than a red herring for larger drama afoot.

Charlie's Angels - Angels in Chains television review

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police detectives turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. To find out more about what happened to a young woman who went missing after being held on questionable charges in a rural county prison, Kelly (Jaclyn Smith), Jill (Farrah Fawcett), and Sabrina (Kate Jackson) get themselves arrested. What they find is a corrupt sheriff (David Huddleston) framing attractive young women and railroading them into prison without a trial. Once in the women’s prison, the ladies are put to hard work in fields, forced to deal with creepy guards (including Anthony James and Mary Woronov), and then dolled up for friends and suppliers of the prison to help “work off” their sentence.

Hawaii Five-0 - Aia i Hi'ikua; i Hi'ialo television review

When one of McGarrett‘s (Alex O’Loughlin) old Navy SEAL buddies turns up dead with a stolen baby in a Cessna that makes an emergency landing on a Naval Air Craft Carrier, Steve is notified by NCIS and politely told to leave the investigation to the Navy. (Haven’t they ever watched the show?) The episode introduces Nazneen Contractor as NCIS Agent Emma Warren who orders McGarrett to stand down multiple times over the course of the episode (even going so far to arrest him at one point) before deciding it would be easier to work with Five-0 than against them. Working together, Five-0 and NCIS discover the reason behind the death of McGarret’s friend and reunite the child with its mother (Sarah Dumont).
