Charlies Angels Blu-ray reviewCharlie’s Angels is a sequel (of sorts) to both the 70s television show and the movies from the early 2000s, Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. The Townsend Agency has gone global, there are now Angels in offices all around the world (and for reasons never explored, each has a support agent all of whom use the codename of Bosley). The team the film focuses on is made up of former heiress and thief Sabina Wilson (Kristen Stewart) and former MI6 agent Jane Kano (Ella Balinska) who are assigned to help programmer Elena Houghlin (Naomi Scott) who has uncovered some dangerous truths about her company’s new technology. After extraction, Elena’s skill set proves useful and she soon becomes one of the team.

The movie highlights some of the goofiness of the original television show in terms of disguises and planning, it also ratches up the action quite a bit. There are plots and subplots here, some making the main story more convoluted than necessary and others simply used as filler.

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. An invite to their friend Sharon‘s (Stefanianna Christopherson) estate quickly turns into another case for Mystery, Inc. after the gang witnesses Sharon’s uncle Stuart (John Stephenson) enter the neighboring mansion only to return an old man. The odd sight is followed by the appearance of a the Ghost of Elias Kingston demanding the entirety of Sharon’s family fortune or others will meet the same fate as poor Stuart.

Silk Stalkings - Blo-Dri television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the unsolved crimes of passion in the wealthy playground of Palm Beach, Florida. “Blo-Dri” introduces fans to Donnie “Dogs” DiBelco (Dennis Paladino), a local gangster who would go on to have a dozen appearances over the show’s run. Investigating the murder of a womanizing hairdresser (Oliver Darrow) and a mob lawyer leads to a disagreement between Chris (Rob Estes) and Rita (Mitzi Kapture) and as to who the true target of the hit was. While some evidence points to a photographer (Teri Ann Linn) with a rough romantic history with the victim, the real reason behind the murder proves to be money. Donnie’s bark in his first appearance is worse than his bite, but first interaction between the gangster and Rita sets the stage for their unusual relationship.

Charlie's Angels - Dirty Business television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police officers turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. While his mother is a sweet woman (Eda Reiss Merin), Marvin Goldman (Warren Berlinger) turns out to be in the running for Townsend Investigations’ scuzziest client. While operating a film laboratory, Marvin is also a blackmailer and pornographer which helps explain the attempt of someone trying to burn down the company (and Marvin’s reluctance to hire the Angels). “Dirty Business” is notable for none of the Angels going undercover, while Sabrina (Kate Jackson) and Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) both play a role in short separate scenes to illicit information, for the rest of the episode the Angels are working as themselves.

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. “Decoy for a Dognapper” is a rarity in that Scooby-Doo (Don Messick) brings a case to the gang after witnessing a dognapper steal a prize dog away from its owner, making it the latest in a series of dognappings. While things will get a splash of supernatural about halfway through the episode, the theft of dogs is also notable for being one of the most simple mysteries the gang ever investigated. Dressing up Scooby as the next likely dog to be taken leads Mystery, Inc. to an Indian village in the side of a cliff where they encounter both the Ghost of Geronimo and an Indian Witch Doctor (Messick).
