Despite all the warnings of possible spoilers, I didn’t see anything all that surprising in the first full trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film, opening in theaters on December 15th, stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Billie Lourd, Domhnall Gleeson, and Gwendoline Christie.

Star Wars #37 offers the return of Sgt. Kreel and his elite Scar Squadron. Opening with the sergeant facing the displeasure of Darth Vader, who decides to give the Imperial soldier one last chance to prove his worth (while also remarking about a non-Sith’s use of a lightsaber being highly suspect), the comic follows Kreel and his men back into action with their attack of a Rebel outpost on Horox III.
As we’ve seen in previous issues centered around Kreel and his Stormtroopers, they are the central characters here and more than just another group of Imperials for our Rebel heroes to overcome. Eventually we do see the core group of Rebels show up and inspect the handiwork of Kreel and his men. Based on Leia‘s reaction, I’d say we’re in for a run-in with the two groups before too long.

Good news, bad news. Blade Runner 2049 isn’t as good as the original. It’s also far better than I expected from a sequel no one really ever wanted to see made. While I’d expect the initial reception to be better than the original Blade Runner, the sequel’s plot does have serious plot holes which multiple viewings are likely to further expose.
Set 30 years after the first film (coinciding with the similar gap between the original and the sequel), the world still has plenty of runaway replicants which need to be found and retired. While Deckard (Harrison Ford) has long-since disappeared, the role of our main Blade Runner this time around is played by Ryan Gosling.
Director Denis Villeneuve offers a visually interesting film with several nods to Blade Runner. While the story is more complicated than necessary, and requires characters to ignore specific questions which seem obvious to ask, K’s (Gosling) journey and the mystery he’s tasked to solve does keep things on track (even if Villeneuve gets stuck multiple times dragging out shots and scenes for the visual style long after the plot has been satisfied).

The third episode of The Orville makes a dramatic turn after two episodes setting up the show as sitcom with Star Trek trappings. “About a Girl” centers around the Orville’s second officer Lt. Commander Bortus (Peter Macon) and his mate Klyden (Chad L. Coleman) whose baby is born female – a cultural deformity according to the pair’s race. After Dr. Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald) refuses to perform a sex change on the infant, Bortus and Klyden request assistance from their government leading to a trial on their homeworld with Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) pleading for the baby to remain female.
