Spider-Man - The Menace of Mysterio

Spidey Saturday takes us back to the 90s New York City and an animated Wall-Crawler. Basing some of the events of the episode off of Amazing Spider-Man #13, “The Menace of Mysterio” introduces the character of Mysterio (Gregg Berger) framing Spider-Man (Christopher Daniel Barnes) for a series of robberies while setting up himself as the hero to take him down. Of course, J. Jonah Jameson (Edward Asner) is overjoyed with events until he discovers he’s been fooled again and Mysterio is nothing more but a special effect tech with a grudge against our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Much of Amazing Spider-Man #45, which kicks off a new arc, takes place inside the walls of the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane. We start with Spider-Man sneaking into the cell of Anna Watson to provide her a cure for her insanity. Having helped her, but not able to convince her to leave, Peter returns with Mary Jane to check-in on her improved state and also runs into an old frenemy in the form of the Sandman who has a warning for Spider-Man.

Spidey Super-Stories #32

Spidey Sunday takes us back to the late 70s and the first time Spider-Man met Spider-Woman. The two-part story is a bit bonkers, following the basic formula of a super-hero misunderstanding when Peter and Aunt May arrive in London and Peter discovers a Spider-Woman is on a crime-spree. Suiting up, he tracks down and fights Spider-Woman until he discovers it’s not the same woman committing the crimes, and that an imposter is working for Doc Ock. Teaming up, the pair take down the fake, although Doc Ock gets away (along with any rationale for this bizarre scheme).
