The Mandalorians – Guns for Hire / The Spies

  • Title: The Mandalorian – Chapter 22: Guns for Hire / Chapter 23: The Spies

The two episode building to the season finale focus on bringing the Mandalorian tribes back together and the return to their homeworld. Well, that is except for another side quest that takes up 90% of “Guns for Hire,” but at least this one involves our main character. Feeling like a mix of world building and rehash of previously defeated villains, with some odd Asimov-ish droid plot thrown in, neither episode is bad but neither really focuses on either the characters or the plot offering something new. That’s not to say there aren’t enjoyable moments, such as Grogu thoroughly enjoying his new murderous mode of transportation (which also allows him to more easily communicate to the other characters).

After spending an inordinate amount of time in the safe embrace of Pabu, the two episode arc that ends Star Wars: The Bad Batch‘s Second Season has the squad seek for answers about the missing clones. The mission’s disastrous end is tipped off almost immediately in an awkward conversation at the start of “The Summit” between Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes) and Tech (Dee Bradley Baker) which is only shoehorned in here because Tech won’t be returning. Sorry, Tech. But, hey, turns out Omega (Michelle Ang) has a sister (but not the blue one).

The Mandalorians – The Pirate

  • Title: The Mandalorian – Chapter 21: The Pirate

“The Pirate” pulls a couple of threads together when Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) rallies the Mandalorians together to save Nevarro from the pirates he dealt with earlier in the season. The trouble alone, and the promise of a land for the Mandalorians on the planet, would have been more than enough to get the soldiers to Nevarro. And, since the pirates are little more than canon fodder for the Mandalorians, neither the characters nor the events needed to be set up in an earlier episode.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch – Tipping Point

  • Title: Star Wars: The Bad Batch – Tipping Point
  • IMDb: link

Taking place long enough after the previous episode for all the rebuilding on Pabu to be completed and the Bad Batch to grow comfortable in their new locale, “Tipping Point” begins pulling some threads together from various stories. After rescuing three Clones from the Empire, Echo (Dee Bradley Baker) returns to the squad with intelligence he needs Tech‘s (Baker) help decrypting, intelligence alluding to what the Empire is doing with their former soldiers including Crosshair (Baker) who we see tortured more this episode as well. While not advancing any of these stories all that much, it does bring Echo back into the fold and hold out hope for Crosshair as well (if he can hold out under Imperial torture long enough for his former squad mates to find him).
