Star Wars Rebels - Imperial Super Commandos

The latest episode of Star Wars Rebels takes Ezra (Taylor Gray) and Sabine (Tiya Sircar) back to Concord Dawn with their Rebel prisoner Fenn Rau (Kevin Mckidd) who discovers his Protectors have been destroyed by Mandalorians loyal to the Empire. Forced into an uneasy truce with Sabine, Rau is forced to choose between making his escape on his own or helping Sabine rescue her friend and take down the Mandalorians who killed his men. The episode’s purpose seems to be to turn Rau from a reluctant prisoner to a valued ally. In the end he chooses Sabine over his own freedom, suggesting we will be seeing more of the character this season.

Star Wars #24

Star Wars #24The Rebels arrive at Tureen VII aboard their stolen Imperial Star Destroyer discovering far too late the number of mechanical issues the skeleton crew has discovered in the past few days is actually the handiwork of Sgt. Kreel and his Stroomtrooper squadron. Jumping out of hyperspace without cannons, the Star Destroyer’s bridge explodes as Leia‘s team confronts the Imperials aboard the nearly-empty Star Destroyer.

The Harbinger makes its way through the planet’s blockade’s fairly easily, but without guns even the unpredictable piloting of Han Solo will only get the Rebels so far… particularly now that Darth Vader has arrived to take possession of his prize.

Darth Vader #25

Darth Vader #25The final issue of Marvel’s Darth Vader series wraps up both ongoing storylines. First, the Dark Lord of the Sith confronts Cylo-V once more. This time, however, Darth Vader makes certain the cybernetic expert won’t be able to escape by moving his consciousness to another cloned host body. Once victorious, Vader returns to the Emperor and receives a surprise.

Vader’s shock that Dr. Aphra has come clean with the Emperor, exposing all of Vader’s secret plans and maneuverings, is nothing compared to the shock Aphra discovers when Palpatine rewards his apprentice’s initiative. The droid expert is unceremoniously shown the door and blasted into space. It’s a fitting end to the character, however, writer Kieron Gillen can’t quite bring himself to kill of Aphra and allows for the opportunity for Aphra to resurface sometime in the future in another Star Wars comic.

Star Wars Rebels - Hera's Heroes

“Hera’s Heroes” returns the crew of the Ghost to Hera‘s (Vanessa Marshall) home planet of Ryloth where the local Rebels have seen their fortunes worsen since a new Imperial commander has arrived. The episode is notable for both introducing Scout Troopers to the series, and playing on the long-running gag of Ezra (Taylor Gray) still collecting Imperial helmets, and for offering the first interaction between one of our heroes and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) when Hera and Ezra are captured while attempting to retrieve a sacred artifact from her home.
