LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures - Crossing Paths

After an encounter with a squadron of Imperial T.I.E. Fighters leaves their Y-Wing damaged, Luke Skywalker (Eric Bauza) and Leia Organa (Julie Dolan) head to the nearest repair facility which just so happens to be owned by the Freemakers. With Naare (Grey Griffin) back on Coruscant for a performance review with Darth Vader (Matt Sloan) and the Emperor (Trevor Devall) all the Rebels have to deal with is a runaway ship Luke, Rowan (Nicolas Cantu), and R0-GR (Matthew Wood) get stuck on and a station full of Imperials searching for Leia.

Darth Vader #22

Darth Vader #22In this issue Darth Vader fights a Rancor. And not just a Rancor, but a cybernetically-engineered monster sent by its creator to slow Vader down. What more could you want?

Okay, there is also some story here as Vader slowly carves his way through the enemy ship searching for the traitor Cylo. Despite besting the man’s scientist and all cybernetic threats to block his bath, the Dark Lord of the Sith is outmanuvered as Cylo’s plan comes to fruition and the renegade is able to steal the new Super Star Destroyer Executor right from under Darth Vader’s nose. I’m guessing the Emperor won’t be pleased.

The Freemaker Adventures - Peril on Kashyyyk

Set during the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures focuses on the three Freemaker siblings who run a scavenger business. The eldest, Zander (Eugene Byrd), is the group’s primary mechanic and pilot. A bit enthusiastic at times, Zander’s love of starships occasionally gets him into trouble. The youngest Freemaker, Rowan (Nicolas Cantu), has a knack for finding trouble as well – especially after he begins showing Force sensitivity and a connection to the lost Kyber crystals whose power the Emperor (Trevor Devall) covets. Meanwhile, the responsible member of the group, Kordi (Vanessa Lengies), tries to keep her brothers in line.

Han Solo #1

Han Solo #1In his new solo series (heh), everyone’s favorite scruffy-looking nerfhereder is badgered into an undercover assignment for the Rebellion. With a leak inside the Rebellion leading the Empire to a network of their spies, and needing a pilot and ship for a dangerous mission, Leia convinces both the reluctant Han and the reluctant Rebel leaders that Han Solo is their man.

The first few pages of the issue, where Han is basically kidnapped and brought to the new Rebel is a bit awkward (did anyone, anywhere believe he would give up control of the Millennium Falcon for any reason?). However, things pick up with the appearance of Leia (and I guess, if you wanted to read between the lines the entire plot to get his ship could be seen as nothing more than a ploy to get Han on board for the mission).

Darth Vader #21

Darth Vader #21Sending the murder droids after their missing creator, Darth Vader turns his attention on his new assignment from the Emperor: find rogue scientist Cylo who is building his own cyber-fleet of ships. Finding Aphra drunk in a bar in the Outer Rim, Triple-Zero and Beetee cause murder and mayhem on a large scale before finally convincing their former master to accompany them back to Lord Vader.

Vader’s journey takes him to the Crushank Nebulae in the Outer Rim where he forces Cylo to flee once again, but not before drilling his T.I.E. Advanced deep inside the traitor’s flagship where he will have to cut a large swath, and put down all obstacles placed in his path, to bridge the difference between himself and Cylo.
