Suicide Squad #14

Amanda Waller has won. Now in control of Earth-3, she’s sent back Rick Flag and his team, and any of her own she no longer has use for, back home. However, the members of the Suicide Squad will soon discover that the absence of Waller will have large consequences to the Task Force X program which the government wastes time in defunding and attempting to destroy all evidence of its existence.

Left to their own devices, the various surviving members end up getting into all kinds of trouble as Peacemaker and Ambush Bug steal some more Bizarro Superboy clones, Rodriguez runs into some resistance while sneaking into a top-secret military base, and Mirror Master almost gets killed at least three times. The crazy antics of the Suicide Squad come back to normal bringing back some of the wacky fun of the earlier issues and suicidal new plan from the team’s leader.

The War for Earth-3 #1

Spinning out of the (surprisingly good) latest volume of Suicide Squad comes the first issue of The War for Earth-3 as Amanda Waller and her team invade the alternate Earth controlled by Ultraman and the Crime Syndicate. Meanwhile, Rick Flag‘s team have their own problems on Earth-0 dealing with the surprise Waller left for them.

While Waller’s team takes down Power Ring and then Owlman, Ultraman is distracted by the sex games of Owlman and Superwoman providing the Squad with just the opening they need and Waller time to make her pitch to the world’s most dangerous man. Aside from the seedy Owlman / Superwoman / Ultraman stuff, ick, there is plenty of action (although nowhere near $6 worth) and Waller does have a plan which her team executes leading to a new status quo. The war has begun. Hmm, okay?

Suicide Squad #11

The big throwdown between teams assembled by Amanda Waller and Rick Flag is put off for one more issue (which does kill some of the momentum of the ongoing arc) as Flag waits for Peacemaker to try and convince Bloodsport to join their side and Waller sends her team to Earth-8 to fight a variety of odd-ball characters like the Retaliators as some form of audition to prove they have what it takes to be part of her team going forward (but with Flag’s team now assembled and hitting her secret base, it doesn’t look like she has much of a choice).

The issue continues Ambush Bug‘s narration which has some fun moments, especially during the introduction of the various Earth-8 characters and we also get more of the turmoil within Waller’s team which includes those loyal to Flag’s point of view.
