Smallville – Cool

Smallville Saturday takes us back to the creation of a new meteor freak of the week when high-school lothario Sean Kelvin (Michael Coristine) gets trapped under the ice in the meteor-filled Cater Lake and emerges with permanent hypothermia and a need to draw on fire, electricity, or the body heat of others to stay warm. That’s trouble for his ex-girlfriend Jenna (Tania Saulnier) who doesn’t survive her final encounter with Sean and for Chloe (Allison Mack) who has drawn the attention of the oh too cool football player whose touch can kill. Sean’s powers somewhat mirror that of longtime Superman villain Parasite, who feeds on the energy of others, although the inclusion of his powers being cold-based are quite different.

My Adventures with Superman – Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say

“Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say” is the weakest of episode of the series so far with Clark (Jack Quaid) debating about whether or not to tell Lois (Alice Lee) the truth while she goes overboard in her attempts to uncover Superman’s secrets and find out what exactly he’s hiding. This dynamic continues into our trio’s first official assignment for The Daily Planet covering a gala at Ivo Tower, offering more attempts for Lois to go overboard in her investigative journalist mode which seems incapable of understanding how to actually work information out of subject, where a crazed Anthony Ivo (Jake Green), out to prove the worth of his latest invention, takes the Parasite armor out for a test spin terrifying his guests and leading to the arrival of Superman.

Smallville – X-Ray

Smallville Saturday takes us back to the introduction of Clark‘s (Tom Welling) X-Ray Vision which coincidentally manifests itself in an episode that proves quite useful as another classmate changed by meteorite rocks has developed a shape-shifting ability to become anyone she wants to be and decided to put this ability to use for notorious purposes including robbing the local bank as Lex (Michael Rosenbaum), and, in full single white female mode, attempting to take over the life of Lana (Kristin Kreuk).

My Adventures with Superman – My Interview with Superman

  • Title: My Adventures with Superman – My Interview with Superman

“My Interview with Superman” highlights one glaring issue with the otherwise strong series in its weak and thoroughly uninteresting choice of villains. After being scooped by Perry (Darrell Brown) assigning the Superman story to other reporters, Clark Kent (Jack Quaid), Lois Lane (Alice Lee), and Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid) begin looking into various unremarkable thugs from Intergang using the same alien tech they’ve seen before which includes sneaking into the prison to look for clues. However, Lois plans to use the chaos Intergang is causing to ultimately get her interview. Strong episode when focusing on the interactions between Lois and Clark (and later Superman), but the reporter introductions are a bit too goofy and Intergang is a disappointment.

Smallville – Hothead

  • Title: Smallville – Hothead
  • wiki: link

Smallville Saturday takes us back to Clark‘s (Tom Welling) first brief stint on the Smallville football team. “Hothead” also marks the first time an adult, rather than someone closer to Clark’s age, becomes a meteor freak. In this case it’s football coach Walt Arnold (Dan Lauria) whose quick temper and fiery disposition is enhanced by the meteor rocks in his steam room making him a Firestarter. The conflict from the episode comes from father vs. son dynamics with Clark disobeying his father and joining the team, and in a short B-story Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) making a similar bold move against his own father. We also get Chloe‘s (Allison Mack) investigation into the football team discovering the bad behavior of its coach (even before he sets the principal’s car on fire) putting herself, and eventually Clark, in danger.
