Bones - The Corpse on the Canopy

Serial killer Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) returns to toy with the folks at the Jeffersonian and the FBI beginning with Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) who wake up after being drugged to find a flayed corpse of a Special Forces soldier on the canopy above their bed. Despite Hodgins’ wishes to go after the killer alone, and not to arrest him, Booth (David Boreanaz) convinces him to allow Cam (Tamara Taylor) and a tech team to work the crime scene and start an investigation by the book.

After identifying the victim as a highly-paid mercenary who Pelant tortured to death, Booth, Sweets (John Francis Daley), and Special Agent Flynn (Reed Diamond) search for a connection between the soldier and Pelant and the reason why he was chosen as the killer’s latest victim. As tensions around the case begin to fray Hodgins becomes increasing paranoid and obsessed with finding the man who drugged him and threatened his wife and child.

Pelant continues to tease the Jeffersonian by mailing a dissected finger of a monkey to Bones (Emily Deschanel) which lead the scientists to take a closer look at their corpse to decipher the madman’s clue. Meanwhile, Angela and Hodgins are able to trace Pelant through the gas he used to knock them out and discover not only his latest identity but also the fact he’s working in the security company that employed the mercenary before his death.

Booth and Flynn lead a FBI strike team to chase a wounded Pelant from the company but not before he executes his plan to drain Hodgins of all his money and set one of the security company’s drones to attack a Middle Eastern girls school. Even injured and on the run Pelant manages to steal victory as Flynn is severely injured in storming the security company and all traces of Hodgins’ vast portfolio disappear in a manner of seconds. And with both his face and pride injured the Jeffersonian can be sure, as Booth is well aware, that they haven’t seen the last of the serial killer.
