Intelligence that the one remaining member of the terrorist cell responsible for the attack on the CIA offices in Chicago leads both Annie (Piper Perabo) and Ryan McQuaid (Nic Bishop) to Venezuela to track him down. Despite realizing the skills and resources each other bring to the table, Annie and McQuaid fight working together as each attempts to one-up the other to stay one-step ahead of their competition.
Eventually Annie tracks the terrorist down but the medical issue shown in last week’s season premiere (disclosed here to be a heart condition) makes her unable to keep the prisoner leading to McQuaid’s men catching up and getting their boss the one-on-one with his former employee before agreeing to turn the man over to the CIA. Although Annie gets her man, she’s forced to reveal her condition to McQuaid and has no idea of just what happened in the time the security CEO had alone with the terrorist.
Arthur‘s (Peter Gallagher) new job from McQuaid’s company ties in a B-story involving his first day and the CIA’s interest in what exactly his boss is doing in Venezuela. With the added tension of Arthur and Joan (Kari Matchett) keeping secrets from each other once again and the fact that Arthur will be working closely with McQuaid’s sexy assistant Caitlyn Cook (Perrey Reeves) likely means will get some new friction in the Campbell household this season.
Auggie (Christopher Gorham) makes some friction of his own with National Counter Terrorism Center Investigator Hayley Price (Amy Jo Johnson) whose job it is to take a look into the Chicago bombing. In true rom-com fashion the pair bicker and argue before eventually giving in to their mutual attraction. Despite Annie’s initial distrust of McQuaid the episode also teases the possibility of the pair getting together (which I disapprove of, and not only because I suspect at some point McQuaid will be revealed to be this season’s bad guy). First, however, they’ll have to find a way to get their prisoner (and themselves) out of Venezuela alive.
McQuaid has to be the bad guy behind the terrorist attacks unless the writers are trying hard to make us think he will be. Annie better not sleep with him. The guy is a tool.
