Danger Man - The Honeymooners television review

Our Throwback Tuesday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. John Drake (Patrick McGoohan) is sent to small island nation in the Far East when a couple’s honeymoon getaway ends in murder. With the husband (Ronald Allen) jailed and facing execution, Drake attempts to pry details from the uncooperative bride (Sally Bazely) about the unfortunate night when a local man was shot while mistakenly entering their motel room. Not helping matters is the fact that the husband has become a pawn in the political maneuverings of both the country’s President (Michael Peake) and the Minister of Justice (Lee Montague).

Drake’s attempts to help are stymied for most of the episode, both by the wife who frets about saying too much and by the local government who thwart his attempts to help the prisoner (such as relieving him of the wife’s confession which would have gotten the couple out of the country without any further trouble). In the end, Drake must resort to a daring prison escape which is helped by the prisoner’s knowledge of Drake and his method and a bit of good luck that gets both men out of the prison in the nick of time. The episode closes without an epilogue allowing the couple to be reunited, or for the wife to offer thanks to the spy whose mission to save her husband she nearly derailed with some questionable decision-making.
