FBI - Little Egypt television review

FBI opens its Second Season with an episode that hits close to home for one of its stars (in that way it’s the same as every other episode of the series which somehow makes any crime personal for one of the leads). A bombing in the neighborhood he grew up in sends OA (Zeeko Zaki) and Maggie (Missy Peregrym) on a search for a white supremacist teenager (but that turns out to be only the tip of the iceberg). While responsible for the bombing, the teen was hired for the job by a Muslim looking to target his own people in hopes of raising awareness of hate crimes like the one he suffered not long ago. When the FBI fail to reveal a Muslim was behind the bombing, it also leads two youths (Nik Sadhnani and Paul Karmiryan) to begin looking for their own form of justice.

More of an OA episode than a Maggie one, “Little Egypt” shows the agent struggling with the truth of the crime, the choice of his new boss to not reveal the motives behind the attack, and an FBI agent’s tactics which he sees as radicalizing two young kids to entrap them as terrorist. The revolving door of the team’s boss (Alana De La Garza) continues the hot-and-cold change of the guard from hard ass to supportive mentor and now back to hard ass. OA’s intention to try and save one of the kids actually uncovers a secondary bombing plot that the FBI is able to thwart. However, even after getting the cooperation of one of the kids to stop the bombing, OA is unable to save a dumb kid who reluctantly went along with his friend’s plan and now is looking at a lifetime in prison. The episode is also notable for Kristen Chazal’s (Ebonee Noel) promotion to the field and the arrival of her new partner (John Boyd).
