Franklin & Bash - Out of the Blue

As Franklin (Breckin Meyer) and Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) get involved in a legal dispute between their client (Scott Michael Campbell), his landlord, and the Department of Homeland Secruity over who owns the meteorite that crashed through his store Infeld (Malcolm McDowell) jumps in to defend Damien (Reed Diamond) who is accused of murdering Judge Densdale (Buck Henry) who the lawyer threatened on the golf course less than an hour before the judge accidentally walked into Damien’s backswing and died from a nine iron to the head.

After the meteorite is claimed by Homeland Security, Rachel (Heather Locklear) suggests using their client’s 1/16 Native American heritage to try and return a “Native American cultural item” to its rightful owner. Although their client goes for the deal the pair have a much harder time selling the plan to the tribal elder (Gregory Cruz). After finally reaching an accommodation with the tribe, the pair still need the help of Carmen (Dana Davis), finding a way to trick the head scientist (Paul Cassell) of scientific firm investigating the meteor into admitting his motives aren’t purely academic, and a trademark Franklin and Bash stunt involving a pitching machine that nearly beans the judge (Clyde Kusatsu) with a altered baseball to win the case.

The meteorite case ends as expected (complete with Rachel’s exasperation at how little the firm makes from the case) and Peter and Jared step in to offer some out-of-the-box thinking to save Damien by disqualifying Infeld first as a lawyer and then as a witness to the crime and getting all of the charges dropped. Even with Infeld going from the prosecution’s key witness to pariah in a matter of minutes, it’s still a little perplexing why the relatively solid case against Damien was dropped so quickly (other than the fact that the episode was about to end).
