We get a couple of storylines in “Family Ties.” The first involves NCIS investigating a list of burglaries and pranks which they trace back to a smart but troubled teen. They aren’t the only one after him as one of his targets is out for revenge as well. The bizarre nature of the crimes provides some fun early on. The series of events also allows for the return of both Boom Boom (Sharif Atkins) and Bam Bam (Cher Alvarez) who both continue having fun at Kai‘s (Alex Tarrant) expense.

The B-story, which is given almost as much screentime, involves Whistler (Tori Anderson) struggles keeping her first confidential informant in line prior to a big bust. We gets some fun aggravated Whistler moments, along with some of of Whistler and Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami) together, and a nice moment of advice from Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), even if the storyline feels dragged out to fit into the remaining time frame of the episode.
