Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) put the existence of The Machine at risk when they set out to help an increasingly erratic tech billionaire (Jimmi Simpson) whose curiosity is aroused by their actions. The more the pair continue to save his life the more the billionaire becomes obsessed with discovering all their secrets.

There are no lack of suspects which include rival companies he is suing into oblivion, his business partner (Charlie Semine), his top competitor whose wife (Bridget McKevitt) he’s secretly having an affair with, the man’s lawyer (Chandler Williams), his company’s own board of directors who have just voted the man out as CEO, and a missing young software engineer (Brooke Bloom) who has vowed to force the billionaire to make good on his promise to launch her website.

As Reese travels with their latest Person of Interest to St. Petersburgh, Finch and Detective Carter (Taraji P. Henson) look into who poisoned their billionaire and rewired his sports car to give him the last ride of his life. Meanwhile Fusco (Kevin Chapman) becomes anxious the more Carter pokes into the disappearance of two cops that surround his shady past and the beginning of his work with Reese. The episode also includes more flashbacks into the early development of The Machine as Finch and Nathan Ingram (Brett Cullen) watch in horror at the events of 9/11 and the days following Ingram’s sell of The Machine to the United States Government.

The unusual Person of Interest story works well, but what’s far more interesting is the idea that Reese and Finch have aroused the curiosity of an eccentric billionaire with nothing better to do than dig into their pasts for answers. We’ll have to wait and see if their latest save may come back to bite them in the ass before the end of the season.
