Murder Mystery Monday takes us back to early 20th Century London and another case for the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Notable for Poirot (David Suchet) never leaving his apartment until it comes time to reveal the truth, the case of an unusual disappearance gets a bit more life injected into it with Poirot sitting at home while Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser) becomes his eyes and ears on the case.

Accepting a bet from Chief Inspector Japp (Philip Jackson), and relying on Japp and Hastings for information, Poirot is able to deduce the truth behind a man’s (Kenneth Colley) disappearance, and suspected murder, after disappearing from the lane just prior to meeting an old rival (Tony Mathews), who would had to cross paths on his way to the house (which he denies), and who was also left alone in his study where the safe was broken into.

The episode provides another mystery where the true culprit is more devious than the obvious suspect, destroying multiple lives to complete their master plan. Beginning with the trio attending a magic show, the episode also features a running gag of Poirot teaching himself magic tricks while cooped up in the apartment awaiting new information.
